Abstract

A dialysis method includes: receiving at least one of blood pressure data from a blood pressure monitor or patient weight data from a weight scale at a dialysis machine at least one of (i) before or (ii) after each treatment performed by the dialysis machine; generating ultrafiltration (“UF”) removed data over a treatment performed by the dialysis machine; sending the UF removed data and at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data to a server; determining at least one of a UF trend, a blood pressure trend or a patient weight trend from the UF removed data, the blood pressure data or the patient weight data, respectively; and displaying at least one of the UF trend, the blood pressure trend or the patient weight trend so that a therapy adjustment can be made if necessary.

Claims

1. A dialysis method comprising:

receiving at least one of blood pressure data from a blood pressure monitor or patient weight data from a weight scale at a dialysis machine at least one of (i) before or (ii) after each treatment performed by the dialysis machine;

generating ultrafiltration (“

UF”

) removed data over a treatment performed by the dialysis machine;

sending the UF removed data and at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data to a server;

determining at least one of a UF trend, a blood pressure trend or a patient weight trend from the UF removed data, the blood pressure data or the patient weight data, respectively; and

displaying at least one of the UF trend, the blood pressure trend or the patient weight trend so that a therapy adjustment can be made if necessary.

2. The dialysis method of claim 1, which includes receiving at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data both (i) before and (ii) after each treatment performed by the dialysis machine.

3. The dialysis method of claim 2, which includes enabling a selection of whether at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data is received before, after, or before and after each treatment performed by the dialysis machine.

4. The dialysis method of claim 1, which includes enabling a selection of whether at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data is received by the dialysis machine.

5. The dialysis method of claim 1, which includes generating an alert if at least one of the UF trend, the blood pressure trend or the patient weight trend moves outside of a respective upper or lower limit.

6. The dialysis method of claim 5, which includes enabling the upper and lower limits to be set.

7. The dialysis method of claim 5, wherein the upper and lower limits are set based upon a therapy prescription.

8. The dialysis method of claim 7, wherein the therapy prescription is one of a low, standard or high UF therapy prescription.

9. The dialysis method of claim 1, wherein the UF trend, the blood pressure trend or the patient weight trend are daily trends.

10. The dialysis method of claim 1, wherein the therapy adjustment is of a type selected from the group consisting of:

(i) a change of dialysate type, (ii) a change of dialysate dextrose level, (iii) a change in therapy time, (iv) a change in fill volume, (v) a change in a number of night fill exchanges, or (vi) whether or not a day exchange is performed.

11. The dialysis method of claim 1, wherein the blood pressure data includes at least one of pre-systolic blood pressure data, post-systolic blood pressure data, pre-diastolic blood pressure data, or post-diastolic blood pressure data.

12. The dialysis method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data is either received wirelessly at the dialysis machine or entered manually into the dialysis machine.

13. The dialysis method of claim 1, wherein the UF removed data is based upon the patient weight data.

14. The dialysis method of claim 1, wherein the dialysis machine is a peritoneal dialysis machine.

15. The dialysis method of claim 1, wherein the server is located remotely from the dialysis machine.

16. A dialysis method comprising:

receiving at least one of blood pressure data from a blood pressure monitor or patient weight data from a weight scale wirelessly at a dialysis machine at least one of (i) before or (ii) after each treatment performed by the dialysis machine;

generating ultrafiltration (“

UF”

) removed data over a treatment performed by the dialysis machine according to a first therapy prescription;

sending the UF removed data and at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data to a server;

enabling a doctor or clinician to

review the UF removed data and at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data, and

prepare a second therapy prescription differing from the first therapy prescription based at least upon the UF removed data or at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data; and

sending the second therapy prescription to the dialysis machine.

17. The dialysis method of claim 16, wherein enabling the doctor or clinician to review the UF removed data and at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data includes preparing at least one trend of the UF removed data, blood pressure data or patient weight data.

18. A dialysis system comprising:

a dialysis machine;

a server;

a doctor or clinician computer;

the dialysis machine receiving at least one of blood pressure data from a blood pressure monitor or patient weight data from a weight scale wirelessly at least one of (i) before or (ii) after each treatment performed by the dialysis machine;

the dialysis machine generating ultrafiltration (“

UF”

) removed data over a treatment performed by the dialysis machine;

the dialysis machine, the server or the doctor or clinician computer determining at least one of a UF trend, a blood pressure trend or a patient weight trend from the UF removed data, the blood pressure data or the patient weight data, respectively; and

the doctor or clinician computer displaying at least one of the UF trend, the blood pressure trend or the patient weight trend.

19. The dialysis system of claim 18, wherein a therapy adjustment is made to a therapy prescription based upon the displayed at least one trend, the therapy prescription sent from the server to the dialysis machine.

20. A dialysis system comprising:

a dialysis machine;

a server;

a doctor or clinician computer;

the dialysis machine receiving at least one of blood pressure data from a blood pressure monitor or patient weight data from a weight scale wirelessly at least one of (i) before or (ii) after each treatment performed by the dialysis machine;

the dialysis machine generating ultrafiltration (“

UF”

) removed data over a treatment performed by the dialysis machine according to a first therapy prescription;

the dialysis machine sending the UF removed data and at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data to the server;

the doctor or clinician computer enabling a doctor or clinician to

review the UF removed data and at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data, and

prepare a second therapy prescription differing from the first therapy prescription based at least upon the UF removed data, the blood pressure data or the patient weight data; and

the server sending the second therapy prescription to the dialysis machine.
