Abstract

A data communication framing scheme of a bit stream that is divided among a plurality of discrete physical frames, each physical frame is of a definite number of symbols in duration, each symbol is associated with at least one sub-carrier in a plurality of sub-carriers, the physical frame is partitioned in time into at least an uplink zone and a downlink zone, the data framing scheme comprising a logical frame having a logical frame start position that is offset by a rational number of said symbols from a reference symbol, said reference symbol is selected from said definite number of symbols, wherein said logical frame extends in time to coincide with at least part of the duration of said physical frame and at least part of the duration of another physical frame in said plurality of discrete physical frames.

Claims

1. A data communication framing scheme of a bit stream that is divided among a plurality of discrete physical frames, each physical frame is of a definite number of symbols in duration, each symbol is associated with at least one sub carrier in a plurality of sub carriers, the physical frame is partitioned in time into at least an uplink zone and a downlink zone, the data framing scheme comprising:

a logical frame having a logical frame start position that is offset from a reference symbol, said reference symbol is selected from said definite number of symbols;

wherein said logical frame extends in time to coincide with at least part of the duration of said physical frame and at least part of the duration of another physical frame in said plurality of discrete physical frames.

2. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 1, further comprising:

a media access protocol (MAP) context frame, said MAP context frame having a MAP context frame start position that is offset by a rational number of said symbols from said reference symbol within said physical frame; and

a MAP message which includes at least one reference data type that respectively defines said logical frame start position.

3. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 1, further comprising:

an acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) context frame having an ACK/NACK context frame start position that is offset by a rational number of said symbols from said reference symbol; and

an ACK/NACK message associated with at least one of said ACK/NACK context frame, said ACK/NACK message is operative to acknowledge/disacknowledge reception of at least part of said bit stream contained at least partly in said ACK/NACK context frame.

7. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 1, wherein said another physical frame is a subsequent physical frame in time, to said physical frame.

9. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 2, wherein said rational number relating to said MAP context frame start position is integer.

10. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 3, wherein said rational number relating to said ACK/NACK context frame start position is integer.

11. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 2, wherein said MAP message further defines duration of at least one of said uplink zone and said downlink zone.

12. The communication data framing scheme according to claim 3, wherein said ACK/NACK message is time wise located within either one of:

said uplink zone for acknowledging/disacknowledging of reception of at least part of said bit stream contained at least partly in said downlink zone of said physical frame and said downlink zone of said previous physical frame in said sequence of discrete physical frames; and

said downlink zone for acknowledging/disacknowledging reception of at least part of said bit stream contained at least partly in said uplink zone of said physical frame and said uplink zone of said previous physical frame.

14. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 2, wherein said MAP context frame defines the modulation transmission scheme.

15. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 1, wherein the duration of said logical frame is on average, substantially equal to the duration of said physical frame.

16. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 2, wherein the duration of said MAP context frame is substantially equal to duration of said physical frame.

17. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 1, wherein said logical frame facilitates synchronization of data transmission units (DTUs) at a receiver receiving said bit stream.

18. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 2, wherein said MAP context frame defines when transmission parameters take effect.

A data communication framing scheme of a bit stream that is divided among a plurality of discrete physical frames, each physical frame is of a definite number of symbols in duration, each symbol is associated with at least one sub carrier in a plurality of sub carriers, the physical frame is partitioned in time into at least an uplink zone and a downlink zone, the data framing scheme comprising:

a media access protocol (MAP) context frame, said MAP context frame having a MAP context frame start position that is offset by a rational number of said symbols from a reference symbol within said physical frame; and

a MAP message which relates to said MAP context frame.

20. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 19, further comprising:

an acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) context frame having an ACK/NACK context frame start position that is offset by a rational number of said symbols from said reference symbol; and

an ACK/NACK message associated with at least one of said ACK/NACK context frame, said ACK/NACK message is operative to acknowledge/disacknowledge reception of at least part of said bit stream contained at least partly in said physical frame and partly in a previous physical frame among said plurality of discrete physical frames.

22. The data communication framing scheme according to claim 19, wherein said MAP message includes at least one reference data type that respectively defines said logical frame start position.

A data communication framing scheme of a bit stream that is divided among a plurality of discrete physical frames, each physical frame is of a definite number of symbols in duration, each symbol is associated with at least one sub carrier in a plurality of sub carriers, the physical frame is partitioned in time into at least an uplink zone and a downlink zone, the data framing scheme comprising:

an acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) context frame having an ACK/NACK context frame start position that is offset by a rational number of said symbols from a reference symbol within said physical frame; and

an ACK/NACK message associated with at least one of said ACK/NACK context frame;

said ACK/NACK message is operative to acknowledge/disacknowledge reception of at least part of said bit stream contained at least partly in said ACK/NACK context frame.

A method for framing a bit stream that is divided among a plurality of discrete physical frames, each physical frame is of a definite number of symbols in duration, each symbol is associated with at least one sub carrier in a plurality of sub carriers, the physical frame is partitioned in time into at least an uplink zone and a downlink zone, the method comprising the procedure of:

allocating a logical frame in said bit stream, said logical frame having a logical frame start position that is offset from a reference symbol, said reference symbol is selected from said definite number of symbols;

wherein said logical frame extends in time to coincide with at least part of the duration of said physical frame and at least part of the duration of another physical frame in said plurality of discrete physical frames.

29. The method according to claim 28, further comprising the procedures of:

allocating a media access protocol (MAP) context frame in said bit stream, said MAP context frame having a MAP context frame start position that is offset by a rational number of said symbols from said reference symbol within said physical frame; and

providing a MAP message which relates to said MAP context frame, said MAP message includes at least one reference data type that defines said logical frame start position.

30. The method according to claim 28, further comprising the procedures of:

allocating an ACK/NACK context frame within a control channel, said ACK/NACK context frame having an ACK/NACK start position that is offset by a rational number of said symbols from said reference symbol; and

providing an ACK/NACK message for acknowledgement/disacknowledgement of reception of at least part of said bit stream contained at least partly in said physical frame, said ACK/NACK message is associated with at least one respective said ACK/NACK context frame.

34. The method according to claim 28, wherein said another physical frame is a subsequent physical frame in time, to said physical frame.

41. The method according to claim 29, wherein said MAP context frame defines a modulation transmission scheme.

42. The method according to claim 28, wherein the duration of said logical frame is on average, substantially equal to the duration of said physical frame.

43. The method according to claim 29, wherein the duration of said MAP context frame is substantially equal to duration of said physical frame.

A method for framing a bit stream that is divided among a plurality of discrete physical frames, each physical frame is of a definite number of symbols in duration, each symbol is associated with at least one sub carrier in a plurality of sub carriers, the physical frame is partitioned in time into at least an uplink zone and a downlink zone, the method comprising the procedures of:

allocating a media access protocol (MAP) context frame in said bit stream, said MAP context frame having a MAP context frame start position that is offset by an integer number of said symbols from a reference symbol within said physical frame; and

providing a MAP message which relates to said MAP context frame.

45. The method according to claim 44, further comprising the procedures of:

allocating a logical frame in said bit stream, said logical frame having a logical frame start position that is offset from said reference symbol, said reference symbol is selected from said definite number of symbols;

wherein said logical frame extends in time to coincide with at least part of the duration of said physical frame and at least part of the duration of another physical frame in said plurality of discrete physical frames.

46. The method according to claim 44, further comprising the procedures of:

allocating an ACK/NACK context frame within a control channel, said ACK/NACK context frame having an ACK/NACK start position that is offset by a rational number of said symbols from said reference symbol; and

providing an ACK/NACK message for acknowledgement/disacknowledgement of reception of at least part of said bit stream contained at least partly in said physical frame and in a previous said physical frame in among said plurality of discrete physical frames, said ACK/NACK message is associated with at least one respective said ACK/NACK context frame.

47. The method according to claim 44, wherein said MAP message includes at least one reference data type that defines said logical frame start position.

48. A method for framing a bit stream that is divided among a plurality of discrete physical frames, each physical frame is of a definite number of symbols in duration, each symbol is associated with at least one sub carrier in a plurality of sub carriers, the physical frame is partitioned in time into at least an uplink zone and a downlink zone, the method comprising the procedures of:

allocating an ACK/NACK context frame within a control channel, said ACK/NACK context frame having an ACK/NACK start position that is offset by a rational number of said symbols from a reference symbol within said physical frame; and

providing an ACK/NACK message for acknowledgement/disacknowledgement of reception of at least part of said bit stream contained at least partly in said physical frame, said ACK/NACK message is associated with at least one respective said ACK/NACK context frame.
