A method of providing a medical device with an amphiphilic coating comprising functionalizing at least a portion of a surface of a non-bioabsorbable polymeric medical device with a first click reactive member and reacting the surface of the non-bioabsorbable polymeric medical device functionalized with the first click reactive member with an amphiphilic compound having a hydrophobic portion and a hydrophilic portion, the hydrophobic portion functionalized with a second click reactive member that is complimentary to the first click reactive member, wherein the hydrophobic portion of the amphiphilic compound is covalently bonded to the surface of the non-bioabsorbable polymeric medical device via a click chemistry reaction.

A method of providing a medical device with an amphiphilic coating comprising functionalizing at least a portion of a surface of a non-bioabsorbable polymeric medical device with a first click reactive member and reacting the surface of the non-bioabsorbable polymeric medical device functionalized with the first click reactive member with an amphiphilic compound having a hydrophobic polymer comprising a fatty acid and a hydrophilic polymer, the hydrophobic polymer functionalized with a second click reactive member that is complimentary to the first click reactive member, wherein the hydrophobic polymer of the amphiphilic compound is covalently bonded to the surface of the non-bioabsorbable polymeric medical device via a Huisgen cycloaddition reaction between the first and second click reactive members and the medical device is a fiber.
