Abstract

A breath analyzer, a system, and a computer program for administering a breath analysis to a donor and recording a breath analysis result. Embodiments of the invention authenticate that the breath analysis was performed correctly, preserves the breath analysis results by communicating with other devices, and presents the breath analysis results by superimposing them on recorded video data. The breath analyzer includes a breath receptor for receiving a breath sample from the donor, an analyzing element for determining a breath analysis result, a communications element for sending information indicative of the breath analysis result to a recording device manager, and a housing for securing the components in a handheld device. The system comprises the breath analyzer, a recording device manager for synchronizing the recordings, and at least one ancillary camera for recording the breath analysis.

Claims

1. A system for administering a breath analysis to a donor and recording a breath analysis result, the system comprising:

a recording device manager including a memory element and a processing element;

a breath analyzer including—

a breath receptor for collecting a breath specimen from the donor;

an analyzing element for analyzing the breath specimen and determining the breath analysis result;

a communication element for sending information indicative of the breath analysis result to the recording device manager; and

a housing for securely containing the analyzing element, the communication element, and at least a portion of the breath receptor; and

an auxiliary computing device associated with the recording device manager, operational to receive the information indicative of the breath analysis result from the recording device manager.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the auxiliary computing device displays the information indicative of the breath analysis result.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the auxiliary computing device is located within the recording device manager and associated with a memory element of the recording device manager.

4. The system of claim 1, further comprising at least one ancillary video camera for capturing video data of the breath analysis, wherein the at least one ancillary video camera is housed with a video camera housing that is physically separated from the housing of the breath analyzing device.

5. The system of claim 4, where the auxiliary computing device is located within the at least one ancillary video camera and associated with a memory element of the ancillary video camera.

6. The system of claim 4, wherein the auxiliary computing device receives the captured video data from the recording device manager and associates the information indicative of the breath analysis result with at least a portion of the captured video data.

7. The system of claim 4, wherein the at least one ancillary video camera is configured to be located on the administrator oriented such that it can observe the donor during the breath analysis.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the auxiliary computing device is housed within an auxiliary computing device housing that is separated from the recording device manager and the breath analyzer.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the breath analyzer further comprises an integral video camera in the breath analyzer oriented such that it can observe the donor during the breath analysis.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the communications element of the breath analyzer operates wirelessly.

11. The system of claim 1, further comprising a proximity tag reader that is adapted to detect a proximity tag and communicate identity data associated with the proximity tag to the recording device manager.

12. The system of claim 1, wherein the breath analyzer, via the communications element, transmits information indicative of a status of the breath analyzer to the recording device manager.

13. A breath analyzer for administering a breath analysis to a donor and recording a breath analysis result, the breath analyzer comprising:

a breath receptor for collecting a breath specimen from the donor;

an analyzing element for analyzing the breath specimen and determining the breath analysis result;

a communication element for sending information indicative of the breath analysis result to a recording device manager,

wherein the recording device manager is associated with at least one ancillary video camera housed separately from the breath analyzer,

wherein the recording device manager associates the breath analysis result with the video recording of the ancillary video camera; and

a housing for securely containing the analyzing element, the communication element, and at least a portion of the breath receptor.

14. The breath analyzer of claim 13, wherein the breath analyzer further comprises an integral video camera in the breath analyzer oriented such that it can observe the donor during the breath analysis.

15. The breath analyzer of claim 13, wherein the communications element of the breath analyzer operates wirelessly.

16. The breath analyzer of claim 13, wherein the breath analyzer further comprises an RFID reader that is adapted to detected RFID tags and associate information from the RFID tag with the breath analysis result.

17. The breath analyzer of claim 13,

wherein the breath analyzer, via the communications element, transmits information indicative of a status of the breath analyzer to the recording device manager,

wherein the status is selected from a group consisting of power on, breath analysis started, breath analysis stopped, current reading of the analyzing element, breath analysis successful completion, error detected, and error not detected.

18. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium associated with a breath analyzer and having a computer program stored thereon for authenticating and preserving a breath analysis result, wherein a processing element of the breath analyzer instructs the computer program to perform the following steps:

sending, to a recording device manager, a set of information indicative of the breath analyzer;

receiving, from an analyzing element of the breath analyzer, information indicative of a breath sample being supplied to the breath receptor;

instructing the analyzing element to analyze the breath sample;

sending, to the recording device manager, a set of information indicative that the analyzing element has begun analyzing;

receiving information indicative of the analyzing element competing the breath analysis;

sending, to the recording device manager, information indicative that the breath analysis is complete;

receiving, from the analyzing element, the breath analysis result;

sending, to the recording device manager, a set of information indicative of the breath analysis result in real time.

19. The computer readable storage medium of claim 18, wherein the computer program instructs the processing element to perform the step of storing the breath analysis result in the memory element associated with the breath analyzer.

20. The computer readable storage medium of claim 18, wherein the computer program instructs the processing element to perform the step of:

receiving, from the recording device manager, information indicative of an administrator of the breath analysis; and

associating the information indicative of the administrator with the breath analysis results.
