Abstract

A method and system for extending an authentication of a wireless device are disclosed. For example, the method includes authenticating access to the wireless device via a first authentication. The method detects a bonded authentication device as a second authentication. The method permits access to the wireless device when the bonded authentication device is detected.

Claims

1. A method for extending an authentication of a wireless device, comprising:

authenticating via the wireless device, a first authentication for access to a network;

detecting, by the wireless device, an accessory device coupled to the wireless device;

entering an enhanced security mode for the wireless device according to the detected accessory device; and

permitting access to the wireless device while the accessory device is detected and the wireless device is operating in the enhanced security mode.

The method of claim 1, wherein entering the enhanced security mode comprises extending an amount of time of the access so that the amount of time the access is permitted to the wireless device is extended when compared to the amount of time access is permitted while the wireless device is authenticated via the first authentication.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the entering of the enhanced security mode for the wireless device is while the detected accessory device is a bonded authentication device.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

providing access to previously locked or disabled functions of the wireless device while the wireless device is operating in the enhanced security mode.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the enhanced security mode extends an amount of time of the access from while the wireless device is in an unauthenticated mode or a user authenticated mode.

6. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon a plurality of instructions, the plurality of instructions including instructions which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform a method of extending an authentication of a wireless device, comprising:

authenticating, via the wireless device, a first authentication for access to a network;

detecting, by the wireless device, an accessory device coupled to the wireless device;

entering an enhanced security mode for the wireless device according to the detected accessory device; and

permitting access to the wireless device while the accessory device is detected and the wireless device is operating in the enhanced security mode.

The computer readable medium of claim 6, wherein entering the enhanced security mode comprises extending an amount of time of the access so that the amount of time the access is permitted to the wireless device is extended when compared to the amount of time access is permitted while the wireless device is authenticated via the first authentication.

8. The computer readable medium of claim 6, wherein the entering of the enhanced security mode for the wireless device is while the detected accessory device is a bonded authentication device.

9. The computer readable medium of claim 6, further comprising:

providing access to previously locked or disabled functions of the wireless device while the wireless device is operating in the enhanced security mode.

10. The computer readable medium of claim 6, wherein the enhanced security mode extends an amount of time of the access from while the wireless device is in an unauthenticated mode or a user authenticated mode.

11. An apparatus to extend an authentication of a wireless device, comprising a processor operable to:

authenticate, via first authentication, access by the wireless device to receive communications from a network;

to detect an accessory device;

enter an enhanced security mode for the wireless device according to the detected accessory device; and

permit access to the wireless device when the accessory device is detected and the wireless device is operating in the enhanced security mode.

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the processor is operable to extend an amount of time of the access so that the amount of time the access is permitted to the wireless device is extended when compared to the amount of time access is permitted while the wireless device is authenticated via the first authentication.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the processor is operable to enter the enhanced security mode while the detected accessory device is a bonded authentication device.

14. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the processor is operable to provide access to previously locked or disabled functions of the wireless device while the wireless device is operating in the enhanced security mode.

15. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the processor is operable to extend an amount of time of the access with the enhanced security mode from while the wireless device is in an unauthenticated mode or a user authenticated mode.
