Abstract

Method and apparatus including calling, retrieving and/or initiating a programmed function in conjunction with execution of one or more commands related to a closed loop control algorithm, receiving one or more data in response to the one or more commands over a data interface, and executing the one or more commands related to the closed loop control algorithm based on the received one or more data are provided.

Claims

1. An apparatus, comprising:

a memory unit having stored therein a closed loop control algorithm for execution; and

a control unit operatively coupled to the memory unit and configured to retrieve the stored closed loop control algorithm for execution, the control unit configured to initiate one or more application programming interface functions associated with one or more operations for medication delivery, wherein the closed loop control algorithm is compatible with both the control unit and a medication delivery routine without the closed loop control algorithm being modified.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the medication delivery routine includes one or more medication delivery functions associated with the one or more of the initiated application programming interface functions.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the closed loop control algorithm stored in the memory unit includes a plurality of closed loop control algorithms.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the control unit includes a serializer for initiating the one or more application programming interface functions.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the serializer is configured such that the closed loop control algorithm can be replaced or modified without modifying the control unit.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the control unit includes a deserializer.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the one or more application programming interface functions is related to one or more of analyte monitoring, a frequency of analyte data logging, a diagnosis of an analyte sensor operation, at least one failure mode related to an analyte sensor, and an analyte sensor replacement schedule.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the one or more application programming interface functions are related to one or more of a medication delivery profile, a medication delivery modification, a safety shut off routine, operational status monitoring, and a data processing mode.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising an analyte monitoring device in signal communication with the control unit.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the analyte monitoring device is configured to monitor real time analyte level over a predetermined time period.

11. A system, comprising:

a control unit including a memory having stored therein a closed loop control algorithm for execution; and

a medication delivery device in signal communication with the control unit for executing one or more medication delivery functions based on one or more signals received from the control unit;

wherein the control unit is configured to retrieve the stored closed loop control algorithm for execution, the control unit further configured to initiate one or more application programming interface functions associated with one or more operations of the medication delivery device, wherein the closed loop control algorithm is compatible with both the control unit and the medication delivery device without the closed loop control algorithm being modified.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the medication delivery device is configured to execute the one or more medication delivery functions associated with the one or more of the initiated application programming interface functions.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the closed loop control algorithm stored in the memory includes a plurality of closed loop control algorithms.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the control unit includes a serializer for initiating the one or more application programming interface functions.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the serializer is configured such that the closed loop control algorithm can be replaced or modified without modifying the control unit.

16. The system of claim 11, wherein the control unit includes a deserializer.

17. The system of claim 11, wherein the one or more application programming interface functions is related to one or more of analyte monitoring, a frequency of analyte data logging, a diagnosis of an analyte sensor operation, at least one failure mode related to an analyte sensor, and an analyte sensor replacement schedule.

18. The system of claim 11, wherein the one or more application programming interface functions are related to one or more of a medication delivery profile, a medication delivery modification, a safety shut off routine, operational status monitoring, and a data processing mode.

19. The system of claim 11, further comprising an analyte monitoring device in signal communication with the control unit.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the analyte monitoring device is configured to monitor real time analyte level over a predetermined time period.
