Abstract

An interface is provided for a user to create a custom dashboard for providing application performance data. The dashboard may be created from one or more widgets, such as graphs, charts, and other display components, and each widget may be individually configured with parameters. The dashboard may be configured to display data for one or more particular transactions, transaction types, or transactions that meet specified criteria. Once created, the dashboard may be shared through a website URL, e-mail, or other method.

Claims

1. A method for reporting data, comprising:

providing an interface by a server to a remote device for configuring a report for transaction performance data;

receiving an input which specifies a filter for displaying a category of entities; and

reporting performance data for one or more entities that satisfy the filter, the performance data selected dynamically at the time the performance data is reported.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the entities include one or more of business transactions, tiers and nodes.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein a first set of entities that satisfy the filter at the time of receiving the input specifying the filter differs from a second set of entities that satisfies the filter at the time the performance data is reported, the performance data associated with the second set of entities.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the filter identifies a performance threshold.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the reporting is performed through a dashboard.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the dashboard may be shared.

7. A method for reporting data, comprising:

providing an interface by a server to a remote device for configuring a report for transaction performance data;

receiving an input at a first point in time which specifies a category of transactions; and

reporting performance data at a second point in time for one of more transactions that satisfy the specified category, at least one or more of the one or more transactions that satisfy the specified at the second period of time not satisfying the specified category at the first point in time.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the performance data is reported using a dashboard.

9. The method of claim 8, receiving a selection of one or more widgets to display performance data in the dashboard, each widget separately configured by the user.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein the dashboard may be shared with a third party via a form of digital communication.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the dashboard is dynamically updated as one or more of the transactions within the specified category are updated.

12. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

receiving a selection of metric category as the category for which to display data; and

receiving a selection of a metric sub-category, wherein performance data is reported for one or more transactions that are within the metric category and metric sub-category.

13. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

receiving a request to display the dashboard after the dashboard was saved; and

providing the dashboard with performance data for a second set of one or more transactions that are within the specified category and which differ than a first set of one or more transactions that were within the specified category when the dashboard was saved.

14. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

receiving a selection to provide a series of data in the dashboard in a graphical format; and

reporting the performance data for the one of more transactions that are within the specified category in a graphical format.

15. The method of claim 7, further comprising providing a report of performance data not associated with a category selected by a user.

16. A computer readable storage medium having embodied thereon a program, the program being executable by a processor to perform a method for method for reporting data, the method comprising:

providing an interface by a server to a remote device for configuring a report for transaction performance data;

receiving an input which specifies a filter for displaying a category of entities; and

reporting performance data for one or more entities that satisfy the filter, the performance data selected dynamically at the time the performance data is reported.

17. The computer readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the entities include one or more of business transactions, tiers and nodes.

18. The computer readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein a first set of entities that satisfy the filter at the time of receiving the input specifying the filter differs from a second set of entities that satisfies the filter at the time the performance data is reported, the performance data associated with the second set of entities.

19. The computer readable storage medium of claim 18, wherein the filter identifies a performance threshold.

20. The computer readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the reporting is performed through a dashboard.

21. The computer readable storage medium of claim 20, wherein the dashboard may be shared.

22. A computer readable storage medium having embodied thereon a program, the program being executable by a processor to perform a method for reporting data, the method comprising:

providing an interface for configuring a report for transaction performance data;

receiving an input through the interface which specifies a category of transactions; and

reporting performance data for one of more transactions that are within the specified category.

23. The computer readable storage medium of claim 22, wherein the performance data is reported using a dashboard configured by a user.

24. The computer readable storage medium of claim 23, receiving a selection of one or more widgets to display performance data in the dashboard, each widget separately configured by the user.

25. The computer readable storage medium of claim 23, wherein the dashboard may be shared with a third party via a form of digital communication.

26. The computer readable storage medium of claim 23, wherein the dashboard is dynamically updated as one or more of the transactions within the specified category are updated.

27. The computer readable storage medium of claim 22, the method further comprising:

receiving a selection of metric category as the category for which to display data; and

receiving a selection of a metric sub-category, wherein performance data is reported for one or more transactions that are within the metric category and metric sub-category.

28. The computer readable storage medium of claim 23, the method further comprising:

receiving a request to display the dashboard after the dashboard was saved; and

providing the dashboard with performance data for a second set of one or more transactions that are within the specified category and which differ than a first set of one or more transactions that were within the specified category when the dashboard was saved.

29. The computer readable storage medium of claim 22, the method further comprising:

receiving a selection to provide a series of data in the dashboard in a graphical format; and

reporting the performance data for the one of more transactions that are within the specified category in a graphical format.

30. The computer readable storage medium of claim 22, the method further comprising providing a report of performance data not associated with a category selected by a user.

31. A system for reporting data, comprising:

a server including a memory and a processor; and

one or more modules stored in the memory and executed by the processor to provide an interface by a server to a remote device for configuring a report for transaction performance data, receive an input which specifies a filter for displaying a category of entities, and report performance data for one or more entities that satisfy the filter, the performance data selected dynamically at the time the performance data is reported.

32. The system of claim 31, wherein the entities include one or more of business transactions, tiers and nodes.

33. The system of claim 31, wherein a first set of entities that satisfy the filter at the time of receiving the input specifying the filter differs from a second set of entities that satisfies the filter at the time the performance data is reported, the performance data associated with the second set of entities.

34. The system of claim 33, wherein the filter identifies a performance threshold.

35. The system of claim 31, wherein the reporting is performed through a dashboard.

36. The system of claim 35, wherein the dashboard may be shared.

37. A system for reporting data, comprising:

a server including a memory and a processor; and

one or more modules stored in the memory and executed by the processor to provide an interface for configuring a report for transaction performance data, receive an input which specifies a category of transactions, and report performance data for one of more transactions that are within the specified category.

38. The system of claim 37, wherein the performance data is reported using a dashboard configured by a user.

39. The system of claim 38, receiving a selection of one or more widgets to display performance data in the dashboard, each widget separately configured by the user.

40. The system of claim 38, wherein the dashboard may be shared with a third party via a form of digital communication.

41. The system of claim 38, wherein the dashboard is dynamically updated as one or more of the transactions within the specified category are updated.

42. The system of claim 37, the one or more modules executable to receive a selection of metric category as the category for which to display data, and to receive a selection of a metric sub-category, wherein performance data is reported for one or more transactions that are within the metric category and metric sub-category.

43. The system of claim 38, the one or more modules executable to receive a request to display the dashboard after the dashboard was saved, and to provide the dashboard with performance data for a second set of one or more transactions that are within the specified category and which differ than a first set of one or more transactions that were within the specified category when the dashboard was saved.

44. The system of claim 37, the one or more modules executable to receive a selection to provide a series of data in the dashboard in a graphical format, and report the performance data for the one of more transactions that are within the specified category in a graphical format.

45. The system of claim 37, the one or more modules executable to provide a report of performance data not associated with a category selected by a user.
