Abstract

Described herein are systems, methods, and computer programs for responding to apprehension of a user towards an experience. In some examples, an experience involves content for the user or an activity for the user to participate in. In some embodiments, a first token instance is extracted from an expression of the user that indicates apprehension towards the experience. A prior experience, represented by a second token instance similar to the first token instance, is selected from among prior experiences the user had. Additionally, an affective response the user had to the prior experience reaches a threshold, which implies that the user may remember the prior experience. An explanation of the relevance of the experience to the user, which is indicative of similarity between the first token instance and the second token instance is generated and optionally presented to the user to ameliorate the apprehension.

Claims

1. A system configured to respond to apprehension of a user towards an experience with an explanation indicative of similarity between the experience and a prior experience of the user, comprising:

an expression analyzer configured to receive an expression of the user and to analyze the expression to determine that the expression indicates apprehension of the user towards the experience;

the expression analyzer is further configured to extract a first token instance from the expression;

wherein the first token instance represents an aspect of the experience;

an experience selector configured to select a prior experience, from among prior experiences, such that the prior experience is represented by a second token instance that is more similar to the first token instance than most of the token instances representing the other prior experiences, and an affective response of the user to the prior experience reaches a predetermined threshold;

whereby the fact that the affective response reaches the predetermined threshold implies that there is a probability of more than 10% that the user remembers the prior experience; and

an explanation generator configured to generate an explanation of relevance of the experience to the user, which is indicative of similarity between the first token instance and the second token instance.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising a user interface configured to present the explanation to the user in response to the expression of the user indicating the apprehension.

3. The system of claim 2, further comprising a user condition detector configured to delay presentation of the explanation until determining that the user is amenable to receive the explanation.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the expression analyzer utilizes semantic analysis to extract the first token instance;

and wherein the semantic analysis indicates that the first token instance is likely a cause of the apprehension of the user towards the experience.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the expression analyzer utilizes eye tracking to extract first token instance;

and wherein the eye tracking identifies an object, represented by the first token instance, on which gaze of the user is fixated.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the explanation of relevance comprises a description of an affective response of the user to the prior experience.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the second token instance is a token instance for which measured attention level of the user is highest, compared to attention level to other token instances representing the prior experience.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the second token instance is a token instance for which predicted attention level is the highest, compared to attention level predicted for other token instances representing the prior experience.

9. A method for responding to apprehension of a user towards an experience with an explanation indicative of similarity between the experience and a prior experience of the user, comprising:

receiving an expression of the user;

analyzing the expression to determine that the expression indicates apprehension of the user towards the experience;

extracting a first token instance from the expression;

wherein the first token instance represents an aspect of the experience;

selecting a prior experience, from among prior experiences, such that the prior experience is represented by a second token instance that is more similar to the first token instance than most of the token instances representing the other prior experiences, and affective response of the user to the prior experience reaches a predetermined threshold;

whereby the fact that the affective response reaches the predetermined threshold implies that there is a probability of more than 10% that the user remembers the prior experience; and

generating an explanation of relevance of the experience to the user, which is indicative of similarity between the first token instance and the second token instance.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising presenting the explanation to the user as a response to the expression of the user indicating the apprehension.

11. The method of claim 9, further comprising utilizing semantic analysis for the extracting of the first token instance;

wherein the semantic analysis indicates that the first token instance is likely a cause of the apprehension of the user towards the experience.

12. The method of claim 9, further comprising utilizing eye tracking for the extracting of the first token instance;

wherein the eye tracking identifies an object, represented by the first token instance, on which gaze of the user is fixated.

13. The method of claim 9, wherein the explanation of relevance comprises a description of an affective response of the user to the prior experience.

14. The method of claim 9, wherein the second token instance is a token instance for which measured attention level of the user is highest, compared to attention level to other token instances representing the prior experience.

15. The method of claim 9, wherein the second token instance is a token instance for which predicted attention level is the highest, compared to attention level predicted for other token instances representing the prior experience.

16. A non-transitory computer-readable medium for use in a computer to respond to apprehension of a user towards an experience with an explanation indicative of similarity between the experience and a prior experience of the user;

the computer comprises a processor, and the non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising;

program code for receiving expression of the user;

program code for analyzing the expression to determine that the expression indicates apprehension of the user towards the experience;

program code for extracting a first token instance from the expression;

wherein the first token instance represents an aspect of the experience;

program code for selecting a prior experience, from among prior experiences, such that the prior experience is represented by a second token instance that is more similar to the first token instance than most of the token instances representing the other prior experiences, and affective response of the user to the prior experience reaches a predetermined threshold;

whereby the fact that the affective response reaches the predetermined threshold implies there is a probability of more than 10% that the user remembers the prior experience; and

program code for generating an explanation of relevance of the experience to the user, which is indicative of similarity between the first token instance and the second token instance.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16, further comprising program code for presenting the explanation to the user as a response to the expression of the user indicating the apprehension.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16, further comprising program code for utilizing semantic analysis for the extracting of the first token instance;

wherein the semantic analysis indicates that the first token instance is likely a cause of the apprehension.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16, further comprising program code for utilizing eye tracking for the extracting of the first token instance;

wherein the eye tracking identifies an object, represented by the first token instance, on which gaze of the user is fixated.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the second token instance is a token instance for which measured attention level of the user is highest, compared to attention level to other token instances representing the prior experience.
