Abstract

Systems and methods implementing a path resolver facilitating client access to a distributed file system. An example method may comprise: receiving, by a processing device, file identifier comprising a symbolic link; producing, by a user space process being executed by the processing device, a modified file identifier, by replacing a pre-defined sequence of characters within the file identifier by a path to a mount point of a distributed file system; and identifying, in view of the modified file identifier, a data structure comprising information about a file identified by the file identifier.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, by a processing device, a file identifier comprising a symbolic link;

producing, by a user space process being executed by the processing device, a modified file identifier, by replacing a pre-defined sequence of characters within the file identifier by a path to a mount point of a distributed file system; and

identifying, in view of the modified file identifier, a data structure comprising information about a file identified by the file identifier.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the file identifier comprises a file path.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the data structure is provided by an inode.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the receiving, the determining and the identifying operations is performed by a file system client.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the pre-defined sequence of characters comprises a forward slash.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the symbolic link is provided by an absolute symbolic link.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the identifying is performed by looking up the modified file identifier in a mapping table.

8. A system, comprising:

a memory; and

one or more processors, coupled to the memory, to;

receive a file identifier comprising a symbolic link;

produce, by a user space process being executed by the processors, a modified file identifier, by replacing a pre-defined sequence of characters within the file identifier by a path to a mount point of a distributed file system; and

identify, in view of the modified file identifier, a data structure comprising information about a file identified by the file identifier.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein file identifier comprises a file path.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein the data structure is provided by an inode.

11. The system of claim 8, wherein the pre-defined sequence of characters comprises a forward slash.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein the symbolic link is provided by an absolute symbolic link.

13. The system of claim 8, wherein the identifying is performed by looking up the modified file identifier in a mapping table.

14. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to perform operations, comprising:

receiving a file identifier comprising a symbolic link;

producing, by a user space process being executed by the processing device, a modified file identifier, by replacing a pre-defined sequence of characters within the file identifier by a path to a mount point of a distributed file system; and

identifying, in view of the modified file identifier, a data structure comprising information about the file.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14, wherein the file identifier comprises a file path.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14, wherein the data structure is provided by an inode.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14, wherein at least one of the receiving, the determining and the identifying operations is performed by a file system client.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14, wherein the pre-defined sequence of characters comprises a forward slash.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14, wherein the symbolic link is provided by an absolute symbolic link.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14, wherein the identifying is performed by looking up the modified file identifier in a mapping table.
