Abstract

A system is provided that reports audit data. The system retrieves audit data that is stored in database tables, where the audit data includes a history of modifications to data, and where the audit data includes data values. The system further retrieves a display name that is stored in a lookup table, where the display name is associated with a data value of the data values within the lookup table. The system further displays the audit data within a user interface, where the display name is displayed within the user interface.

Claims

1. A computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to report audit data, the reporting comprising:

retrieving audit data that is stored in one or more database tables, wherein the audit data comprises a history of one or more modifications to data, and wherein the audit data comprises one or more data values;

retrieving at least one display name that is stored in a lookup table, wherein the at least one display name is associated with at least one data value of the one or more data values within the lookup table; and

displaying the audit data within a user interface, wherein the at least one display name is displayed within the user interface.

2. The computer-readable medium of claim 1, the reporting further comprising:

receiving a search criteria comprising the at least one display name; and

replacing the at least one display name of the search criteria with the at least one data value using the lookup table;

wherein the retrieving the audit data further comprises retrieving audit data that satisfies the search criteria; and

wherein the displaying the audit data further comprises displaying the audit data that satisfies the criteria.

3. The computer-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the at least one display name is displayed within the user interface in place of the at least one data value.

4. The computer-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the displaying the audit data further comprises displaying the at least one display name in a language that is defined by the lookup table.

5. The computer-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the lookup table comprises at least one data value-display name pair comprising at least one association of the at least one data value and the at least one description.

6. The computer-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the lookup table is separate from the one or more database tables.

7. The computer-readable medium of claim 1, the reporting further comprising:

defining metadata that defines the lookup table for the at least one data value; and

storing the metadata within the one or more database tables;

wherein the at least one display name is retrieved from the lookup table based on the metadata.

8. The computer-readable medium of claim 7, wherein the metadata comprises a lookup table name that identifies the lookup table.

9. A computer-implemented method for reporting audit data, the computer-implemented method comprising:

retrieving audit data that is stored in one or more database tables, wherein the audit data comprises a history of one or more modifications to data, and wherein the audit data comprises one or more data values;

retrieving at least one display that is stored in a lookup table, wherein the at least one display name is associated with at least one data value of the one or more data values within the lookup table; and

displaying the audit data within a user interface, wherein the at least one display name is displayed within the user interface.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 9, further comprising:

receiving a search criteria comprising the at least one display name; and

replacing the at least one display name of the search criteria with the at least one data value using the lookup table;

wherein the retrieving the audit data further comprises retrieving audit data that satisfies the search criteria; and

wherein the displaying the audit data further comprises displaying the audit data that satisfies the criteria.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 9, wherein the at least one display name is displayed within the user interface in place of the at least one data value.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 9, wherein the displaying the audit data further comprises displaying the at least one display name in a language that is defined by the lookup table.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 9, wherein the lookup table comprises at least one data value-display name pair comprising at least one association of the at least one data value and the at least one display name.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 9, further comprising:

defining metadata that defines the lookup table for the at least one data value; and

storing the metadata within the one or more database tables;

wherein the at least one display name is retrieved from the lookup table based on the metadata.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 14, wherein the metadata comprises a lookup table name that identifies the lookup table.

16. A system, comprising:

an audit data retrieval module configured to retrieve audit data that is stored in one or more database tables, wherein the audit data comprises a history of one or more modifications to data, and wherein the audit data comprises one or more data values;

a display name retrieval module configured to retrieve at least one display name that is stored in a lookup table, wherein the at least one display name is associated with at least one data value of the one or more data values within the lookup table; and

an audit data display module configured to display the audit data within a user interface, wherein the at least one display name is displayed within the user interface.

17. The system of claim 16, further comprising:

a search criteria module configured to receive a search criteria comprising the at least one display name; and

a search criteria replacement module configured to replace the at least one display name of the search criteria with the at least one data value using the lookup table;

wherein the audit data retrieval module is further configured to retrieve the audit data further comprises retrieving audit data that satisfies the search criteria; and

wherein the audit data display module is further configured to display the audit data that satisfies the criteria.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein the audit data display module is further configured to display the at least one display name in a language that is defined by the lookup table.

19. The system of claim 16, wherein the lookup table comprises at least one data value-display name pair comprising at least one association of the at least one data value and the at least one display name.

20. The system of claim 16, further comprising:

a metadata definition module configured to define metadata that defines the lookup table for the at least one data value; and

a metadata storage module configured to store the metadata within the one or more database tables;

wherein the at least one display name is retrieved from the lookup table based on the metadata.
