Abstract

In embodiments, the present invention provides a method and system for switching between broadcast and unicast content on a mobile device. The method and system involves making unicast content available to the mobile device, making broadcast content available to the mobile device; and providing an application on the mobile device which allows for switching between the unicast and broadcast content.

Claims

1. A method of switching between broadcast and unicast content on a mobile device, comprising:

making network-delivered broadcast content available to the mobile device;

discovering unicast content based on the network-delivered broadcast content;

making the discovered unicast content available to a mobile device; and

providing an application on the mobile device to switch at the mobile device between the discovered unicast content and the network-delivered broadcast content.

2. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein discovering unicast content is performed in response to personalization.

3. The method as recited in claim 2, wherein the personalization is determined by a user profile that adjusts how the unicast content is encoded for delivery to the user.

4. The method as recited in claim 2, wherein the personalization is associated with social networking to facilitate unicast content discovery.

5. The method as recited in claim 4, wherein the social networking facilitates sharing of the unicast content with a target user device.

6. The method as recited in claim 5, further comprising recoding the unicast content into a format acceptable to the target user device when shared with the target user device.

The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the unicast content is discovered in association with at least one of e-commerce, reporting, platform administration, advertising, security, billing, third party integration, architecture of the mobile device, gaming, mobile media business models, distribution, automated content tagging, automated content tagging with web content, automated content tagging with ingestion, automated content tagging with hosting, automated content tagging with content delivery, automated content tagging with combining data and metadata in a single file, automated content tagging with storage, a user interface, notifications, automated content tagging with content storage, and automated content tagging with location information of the mobile device.

The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the unicast content is discovered in association with at least two of e-commerce, reporting, platform administration, advertising, security, billing, third party integration, architecture of the mobile device, gaming, mobile media business models, distribution, automated content tagging, automated content tagging with web content, automated content tagging with ingestion, automated content tagging with hosting, automated content tagging with content delivery, automated content tagging with combining data and metadata in a single file, automated content tagging with storage, a user interface, notifications, automated content tagging with content storage, and automated content tagging with location information of the mobile device.

16. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the network-delivered unicast content includes multi-cast content.

9. A method of switching between broadcast and unicast content on a mobile device, comprising:

making broadcast content available to the mobile device;

providing a facility through which unicast content may be searched for based on the network-delivered broadcast content;

making the searched for unicast content available to a mobile device; and

providing an application on the mobile device to switch at the mobile device between the searched for unicast content and the network-delivered broadcast content.

10. The method as recited in claim 9, wherein making broadcast content available includes providing a notification regarding at least one of the network-delivered broadcast content and associated unicast content.

11. The method as recited in claim 10, wherein a notification includes a user interface and the notification is provided using the user interface.

12. The method as recited in claim 11, wherein the notification includes an advertisement.

13. The method as recited in claim 11, wherein the notification includes a link to related content.

14. The method as recited in claim 11, wherein the notification includes information regarding charges about to be incurred.

15. The method as recited in claim 11, wherein the notification includes information regarding charges incurred.

17. A system for switching between broadcast and unicast content on a mobile device, comprising:

a broadcast content facility for making network-delivered broadcast content available to the mobile device;

a unicast content facility for making network-delivered unicast content available to the mobile device; and

an application on a mobile device to discover unicast content based on the network-delivered broadcast content, and switch at the mobile device between the discovered unicast content and the network-delivered broadcast content.

18. The system as recited in claim 17, wherein making network-delivered broadcast content available to the mobile device includes providing a notification regarding at least one of the network-delivered broadcast content and associated unicast content.

19. The method as recited in claim 18, wherein a notification includes a user interface and the notification is provided using the user interface.

20. The method as recited in claim 17, wherein the notification includes a link to related content.
