1. An apparatus for aspirating, irrigating and/or cleansing wounds, comprisinga conformable wound dressing having a backing layer which is capable of forming a relatively fluid-tight seal or closure over a wound;
- a fluid reservoir connected by a fluid supply tube to the wound dressing;
at least one device for moving fluid through the wound dressing;
at least one outlet tube for aspirating fluid from the wound;
means for aspirate flow regulation connected to the at least one outlet tube; and
means for supply flow regulation;
wherein the fluid is configured to be supplied to the wound dressing from the fluid reservoir via the fluid supply tube while fluid is simultaneously aspirated by the at least one device for moving fluid through the at least one outlet tube; and
further comprising at least one or more of the following;
means for supplying thermal energy to the fluid;
means for supplying physiologically active agents to the wound;
a biodegradable scaffold located under the backing layer and configured to be placed in contact with the wound; and
means for applying stress to the wound.

Abstract

The apparatus and method include one or more of the following: simultaneous aspiration and irrigation of the wound, supplying of thermal energy to fluid circulated through the wound; supplying physiologically active agents to the wound; a biodegradable scaffold in contact with the wound bed; and application of stress or flow stress to the wound bed.

1. An apparatus for aspirating, irrigating and/or cleansing wounds, comprising
a conformable wound dressing having a backing layer which is capable of forming a relatively fluid-tight seal or closure over a wound; -
a fluid reservoir connected by a fluid supply tube to the wound dressing; at least one device for moving fluid through the wound dressing; at least one outlet tube for aspirating fluid from the wound; means for aspirate flow regulation connected to the at least one outlet tube; and means for supply flow regulation; wherein the fluid is configured to be supplied to the wound dressing from the fluid reservoir via the fluid supply tube while fluid is simultaneously aspirated by the at least one device for moving fluid through the at least one outlet tube; and further comprising at least one or more of the following; means for supplying thermal energy to the fluid; means for supplying physiologically active agents to the wound; a biodegradable scaffold located under the backing layer and configured to be placed in contact with the wound; and means for applying stress to the wound. - View Dependent Claims (2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
