Abstract

An update installer generates an update display for a user that allows the user to select updates be applied to a first environment. An export display allows the user to export the selected updates so they can be saved for installation in another environment.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

displaying an update selection user interface display with selection user input mechanisms that receive user selection of application updates to install in a first environment on a computer system;

receiving user actuation of the selection user input mechanisms to select application updates;

displaying an export user interface display with an export user input mechanism;

receiving user actuation of the export user input mechanism; and

saving the selected updates for installation in a second environment.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein the computer system comprises a business system and wherein the first environment comprises a first environment of the business system and wherein saving comprises:

saving the selected updates for installation in the second environment in the business system.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 2 and further comprising:

displaying an import user interface display with an import user input mechanism;

receiving user actuation of the import user input mechanism to identify the selected updates; and

importing the selected updates to the second environment for application to the second environment.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 3 wherein saving comprises:

displaying an export location user interface display with a location user input mechanism that is actuated to identify an export location; and

exporting the selected updates to the identified export location.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 2 wherein displaying an update selection user interface display comprises:

displaying a cumulative update package selection user interface display with a cumulative update selection user input mechanism; and

receiving user actuation of the cumulative update user input mechanism to identify a cumulative update package that includes the selected updates.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 wherein displaying a cumulative update package selection user interface display comprises:

displaying a packages display in a first pane that shows available cumulative update packages; and

displaying a details display in a second pane, the details display displaying details of a selected cumulative update package that is selected in the first pane.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 wherein displaying an update selection user interface display comprises:

displaying an environment identifier user interface display with an environment identifier user input mechanism; and

receiving user actuation of the environment identifier user input mechanism to identify the first environment.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 7 wherein displaying an update selection user interface display comprises:

displaying an impact user interface display that displays an impact of the selected updates on the first environment.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 wherein displaying an update selection user interface display comprises:

displaying a search user interface display with a search user input mechanism to identify search criteria;

receiving user actuation of the search user input mechanism; and

displaying search results that are indicative of updates in the identified cumulative update package identified based on the search criteria.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 wherein displaying an update selection user interface display comprises:

displaying a filter selection user input mechanism to identify filter criteria to be applied to updates in the identified cumulative update package;

receiving user actuation of the filter selection user input mechanism; and

displaying the updates in the identified cumulative update package, filtered based on the filter criteria.

11. A computer system, comprising:

an update installer component that displays an update selection user interface display that receives user inputs selecting updates to update an application and to store the selected updates;

a replay component that displays an import user input mechanism that receives an import user input to import the selected updates;

an installation engine that installs the imported, selected updates to the application in a selected environment; and

a computer processor that is a functional part of the computer system and activated by the update installer component, the replay component and the installation engine to facilitate storing the selected updates, importing the selected updates, and installing the imported, selected updates.

The computer system of claim 11 wherein the application comprises a business application and wherein the update installer component displays an environment identifier user interface display with an update identifier user input mechanism that is actuated to identify an environment in which the application is to be updated by the imported, selected updates.

13. The computer system of claim 12 wherein the replay component displays the import user input mechanism each time an environment is identified so the selected updates are used to update the application in different identified environments.

14. The computer system of claim 12 wherein the installation engine displays an update pane identifying the selected updates to be installed in the identified environment and a details pane that displays update details corresponding to a given update selected in the update pane.

15. The computer system of claim 14 wherein the update installer component further comprises:

an analyzer component that analyzes portions of the application in the identified environment that are affected by the selected updates and generates a display showing information indicative of the effect.

16. A computer readable storage medium that stores computer executable instructions which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform a method, comprising:

displaying an environment identifier user interface display with an environment identifier user input mechanism;

receiving user actuation of the environment identifier user input mechanism to identify a first environment on a computer system;

displaying an update selection user interface display with selection user input mechanisms that receive user selection of a subset of application updates, from a selected cumulative update package, to install in the first environment on the computer system;

receiving user actuation of the selection user input mechanisms to select the subset of application updates;

displaying an export user interface display with an export user input mechanism;

receiving user actuation of the export user input mechanism; and

saving the selected updates for installation in a second environment.

17. The computer readable storage medium of claim 16 wherein the computer system comprises a business system and wherein the first environment comprises a first environment of the business system and wherein saving comprises:

displaying an export location user interface display with a location user input mechanism that is actuated to identify an export location; and

exporting the selected updates to the identified export location.

18. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17 and further comprising:

displaying an import user interface display with an import user input mechanism;

receiving user actuation of the import user input mechanism to identify the selected updates; and

importing the selected updates to the second environment for application to the second environment.

19. The computer readable storage medium of claim 18 wherein displaying an update selection user interface display comprises:

displaying a search user interface display with a search user input mechanism to identify search criteria;

receiving user actuation of the search user input mechanism; and

displaying search results that are indicative of updates in the selected cumulative update package identified based on the search criteria.

20. The computer readable storage medium of claim 18 wherein displaying an update selection user interface display comprises:

displaying a filter selection user input mechanism to identify filter criteria to be applied to updates in the selected cumulative update package;

receiving user actuation of the filter selection user input mechanism; and

displaying the updates in the selected cumulative update package, filtered based on the filter criteria.
