Abstract

A display unit which can realize reduction in thickness and weight of the display unit by omitting a void between a touch panel and a display panel, and its manufacturing method. Whole faces of the touch panel and the display panel are directly bonded together with an adhesive layer in between. The display panel has a structure wherein a driving substrate in which organic light emitting devices are formed and a sealing substrate are bonded together with an adhesive layer in between. The touch panel has a structure wherein a lower plastic film in which a transparent electrode is formed and a touch-side plastic film in which a transparent electrode is formed are layered so that the transparent electrodes are placed opposite. The display panel is constructed with only the driving substrate, and the organic light emitting devices are sealed by the touch panel instead of the sealing substrate. Therefore, thickness and weight of the display unit can be further reduced.

Claims

1. A display unit, comprising:

(a) a display panel including (i) a substrate, (ii) a plurality of display devices formed on the substrate, and (iii) a protective film formed on the plurality of display devices;

(b) a first adhesive member disposed on the display panel; and

(c) a touch panel disposed on a first adhesive layer,

wherein

the touch panel is configured to detect a finger or a pen,

the plurality of the display devices are configured to emit light through the touch panel,

each of the plurality of the display devices includes an organic light emitting layer, and

the plurality of the display devices are sealed by the touch panel and the first adhesive member.

2. The display unit according to claim 1, wherein the protective film is formed directly on both the substrate and the plurality of display devices.

3. The display unit according to claim 1, wherein the touch panel is directly bonded to a whole face of the display panel with the first adhesive member.

4. The display unit according to claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of the display devices has a resonator structure.

5. The display unit according to claim 1, wherein the touch panel includes a first transparent electrode and a second transparent electrode placed opposite to each other.

6. The display unit according to claim 1, wherein the touch panel includes two plastic films.

7. The display unit according to claim 6, including first and second transparent electrodes between the two plastic films.

8. A display unit, comprising:

(a) a display panel including (i) a substrate, (ii) a plurality of display devices formed on the substrate, and (iii) a protective film formed on the plurality of display devices;

(b) a touch panel disposed on a first adhesive layer; and

(c) a first adhesive member disposed between the display panel and the touch panel,

wherein

the touch panel is configured to detect a finger or a pen,

the plurality of the display devices are configured to emit light through the touch panel,

at least one of the display devices includes (i) an anode electrode including silver, (ii) a cathode electrode including an alloy made of magnesium and silver, and (iii) an organic light emitting layer disposed between the anode electrode and the cathode electrode, and

the plurality of the display devices are sealed by the touch panel and the first adhesive member.

9. The display unit according to claim 8, wherein the anode electrode has a thickness from 100 nm to 300 nm, both inclusive.

10. The display unit according to claim 8, wherein the cathode electrode has a thickness from 1 nm to 50 nm, both inclusive.

11. The display unit according to claim 8, wherein:

the anode electrode has a thickness from 100 nm to 300 nm, both inclusive, and

the cathode electrode has a thickness from 1 nm to 50 nm, both inclusive.

12. The display unit according to claim 11, wherein the protective film includes silicon oxide.

13. The display unit according to claim 11, wherein the protective film includes silicon nitride.

14. The display unit according to claim 11, wherein the protective film is formed directly on both the substrate and the plurality of display devices.

15. The display unit according to claim 11, wherein the touch panel is directly bonded to a whole face of the display panel with the first adhesive member.

16. The display unit according to claim 11, wherein each of the plurality of the display devices has a resonator structure.

17. The display unit according to claim 11, wherein the touch panel includes a first transparent electrode and a second transparent electrode placed opposite to each other.

18. The display unit according to claim 11, wherein the touch panel includes two plastic films.

19. The display unit according to claim 18, including first and second transparent electrodes between the two plastic films.
