Abstract

In accordance with an embodiment, described herein is a system and method for providing service expiration in a cloud computing environment. In accordance with an embodiment, the system includes a plurality of services which can be used by applications within the cloud environment, wherein the services can be associated with and utilize resources within the cloud environment. A service expiration component associates reservations with the services, periodically determines a status of the reservations and of any expired services associated therewith, and instructs the system to release the resources of expired services, for use by other services.

Claims

1. A system for providing service expiration in a cloud computing environment, comprising:

a computer, including a cloud environment executing thereon that supports provisioning of enterprise applications;

a plurality of services which can be used by applications within the cloud environment, wherein the services can be associated with and utilize resources within the cloud environment; and

a service expiration component, which

associates reservations with the services,

periodically determines a status of the reservations and of any expired services associated therewith, and

instructs the system to release the resources of expired services, for use by other services.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein services can be associated with a service type, and wherein the reservations can be associated with the service types.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the system includes an administration interface, and communicates notifications of the expired services to the administration interface.

The system of claim 1, wherein the system enables configuration and management of tenants within the cloud environment, wherein the tenants utilize services and resources within the cloud environment, and wherein each tenant can be associated with a service environment within which services can deployed for use by that tenant.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein reservations can be combined with quotas for particular tenants, which restrict their provisioning or usages of the services and resources.

6. A method of providing service expiration in a cloud computing environment, comprising:

providing, at a computer, a cloud environment that supports provisioning of enterprise applications;

providing a plurality of services which can be used by applications within the cloud environment, wherein the services can be associated with and utilize resources within the cloud environment; and

providing a service expiration component, which

associates reservations with the services,

periodically determines a status of the reservations and of any expired services associated therewith, and

instructs the system to release the resources of expired services, for use by other services.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein services can be associated with a service type, and wherein the reservations can be associated with the service types.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the system includes an administration interface, and communicates notifications of the expired services to the administration interface.

The method of claim 6, wherein the system enables configuration and management of tenants within the cloud environment, wherein the tenants utilize services and resources within the cloud environment, and wherein each tenant can be associated with a service environment within which services can deployed for use by that tenant.

10. The method of claim 6, wherein reservations can be combined with quotas for particular tenants, which restrict their provisioning or usages of the services and resources.

11. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium, including instructions stored thereon which when read and executed by one or more computers cause the one or more computers to perform the steps comprising:

providing, at a computer, a cloud environment that supports provisioning of enterprise applications;

providing a plurality of services which can be used by applications within the cloud environment, wherein the services can be associated with and utilize resources within the cloud environment; and

providing a service expiration component, which

associates reservations with the services,

periodically determines a status of the reservations and of any expired services associated therewith, and

instructs the system to release the resources of expired services, for use by other services.

12. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein services can be associated with a service type, and wherein the reservations can be associated with the service types.

13. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein the system includes an administration interface, and communicates notifications of the expired services to the administration interface.

The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein the system enables configuration and management of tenants within the cloud environment, wherein the tenants utilize services and resources within the cloud environment, and wherein each tenant can be associated with a service environment within which services can deployed for use by that tenant.

15. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein reservations can be combined with quotas for particular tenants, which restrict their provisioning or usages of the services and resources.
