Abstract

A radio frequency signal mediator configured indoors passively receives signals from a user wireless device and determines layer two radio access network measurement data from the signals. At least one other radio frequency signal mediator in the same space also passively receives signals from the user wireless device and determines layer two radio access network measurement data from the signals. The radio frequency signal mediators send the data to a location determining device that determines a location for the user device based on the at least two sets of data and send the location data to a location server.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving, at a location determination device from a first radio frequency signal mediator, first signal data for a mobile device;

receiving, at the location determination device from a second radio frequency signal mediator, second signal data for the mobile device;

determining, at the location determination device based on the first signal data and the second signal data, a location for the mobile device; and

transmitting the location for the mobile device to a location server.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first signal data comprises first received signal strength indicator data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second received signal strength indicator data.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the first signal data comprises first reference signal received power data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second reference signal received power data.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the first signal data comprises first reference signal received quality data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second reference signal received quality data.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the first signal data comprises first timing advance data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second timing advance data.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the first signal data comprises first reference signal time difference data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second reference signal time difference data.

7. The method of claim 1, The method of claim 1, wherein the first signal data comprises first angle of arrival data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second angle of arrival data.

8. A location determination system comprising:

a memory comprising executable instructions; and

a processor, wherein the processor, when executing the executable instructions, effectuates operations comprising;

receiving, from a first radio frequency signal mediator, first signal data for a mobile device;

receiving, from a second radio frequency signal mediator, second signal data for the mobile device;

determining, based on the first signal data and the second signal data, a location for the mobile device; and

transmitting the location for the mobile device to a location server.

9. The location determination system of claim 8, wherein the first signal data comprises first received signal strength indicator data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second received signal strength indicator data.

10. The location determination system of claim 8, wherein the first signal data comprises first reference signal received power data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second reference signal received power data.

11. The location determination system of claim 8, wherein the first signal data comprises first reference signal received quality data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second reference signal received quality data.

12. The location determination system of claim 8, wherein the first signal data comprises first timing advance data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second timing advance data.

13. The location determination system of claim 8, wherein the first signal data comprises first reference signal time difference data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second reference signal time difference data.

14. The location determination system of claim 8, wherein the first signal data comprises first angle of arrival data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second angle of arrival data.

15. A computer-readable storage medium comprising computer-executable instructions, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to effectuate operations comprising:

receiving, from a first radio frequency signal mediator, first signal data for a mobile device;

receiving, from a second radio frequency signal mediator, second signal data for the mobile device;

determining, based on the first signal data and the second signal data, a location for the mobile device; and

transmitting the location for the mobile device to a location server.

16. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the first signal data comprises first received signal strength indicator data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second received signal strength indicator data.

17. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the first signal data comprises first reference signal received power data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second reference signal received power data.

18. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the first signal data comprises first reference signal received quality data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second reference signal received quality data.

19. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the first signal data comprises first timing advance data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second timing advance data.

20. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the first signal data comprises first reference signal time difference data, and wherein the second signal data comprises second reference signal time difference data.
