Abstract

A touch display device includes a touch display panel for displaying an image corresponding to a touch applied from outside the touch display device, a gate driver for sequentially driving all gate lines of the touch display panel once during a unit field period including at least two continuous field periods, in such a manner that a total gate driving period corresponding to a sum of individual gate driving periods of all gate lines is shorter than the unit field period, and a touch control unit for defining periods of the unit field period other than the total gate driving period, as a touch sensing period, and performing an operation for sensing a touch on the touch display panel during the touch sensing period.

Claims

1. A touch display device, comprising:

a touch display panel for displaying an image corresponding to a touch applied from outside the touch display device;

a gate driver for sequentially driving all gate lines of the touch display panel once during a unit field period comprising at least two continuous field periods, in such a manner that a total gate driving period corresponding to a sum of individual gate driving periods of all gate lines is shorter than the unit field period; and

a touch control unit for defining periods of the unit field period other than the total gate driving period, as a touch sensing period, and performing an operation for sensing a touch on the touch display panel during the touch sensing period.

2. The touch display device according to claim 1, wherein the unit field period comprises four continuous field periods,

wherein the gate driver sequentially drives (4n+1)th gate lines (n is a natural number including 0) during a first field period, sequentially drives (4n+2)th gate lines during a second field period, sequentially drives (4n+3)th gate lines during a third field period, and sequentially drives (4n+4)th gate lines during a fourth field period, and

wherein the touch control unit defines periods of the first field period other than periods in which the (4n+1)th gate lines are driven, periods of the second field period other than periods in which the (4n+2)th gate lines are driven, periods of the third field period other than periods in which the (4n+3)th gate lines are driven, and periods of the fourth field period other than periods in which the (4n+4)th gate lines are driven, as the touch sensing period.

3. The touch display device according to claim 1, wherein the unit field period comprises four continuous field periods,

wherein the gate driver sequentially drives all gate lines during a first field period, and drives no gate line during the second to fourth field periods, and

wherein the touch control unit defines the second to fourth field periods as the touch sensing period.

4. The touch display device according to claim 1, wherein the unit field period comprises four continuous field periods,

wherein the gate driver sequentially drives (2n+1)th gate lines (n is a natural number including 0) during a first field period, drives no gate line during a second field period, sequentially drives (2n+2)th gate lines during a third field period, and drives no gate line during a fourth field period, and

wherein the touch control unit defines periods of the first field period other than periods in which the (2n+1)th gate lines are driven, the second field period, periods of the third field period other than periods in which the (2n+2)th gate lines are driven, and the fourth field period, as the touch sensing period.

5. The touch display device according to claim 1, wherein the unit field period comprises eight continuous field periods,

wherein the gate driver sequentially drives (4n+1)th gate lines (n is a natural number including 0) during a first field period, drives no gate line during a second field period, sequentially drives (4n+2)th gate lines during a third field period, drives no gate line during a fourth field period, sequentially drives (4n+3)th gate lines during a fifth field period, drives no gate line during a sixth field period, sequentially drives (4n+4)th gate lines during a seventh field period, and drives no gate line during an eighth field period, and

wherein the touch control unit defines periods of the first field period other than periods in which the (4n+1)th gate lines are driven, the second field period, periods of the third field period other than periods in which the (4n+2)th gate lines are driven, the fourth field period, periods of the fifth field period other than periods in which the (4n+3)th gate lines are driven, the sixth field period, periods of the seventh field period other than periods in which the (4n+4)th gate lines are driven, and the eighth field period, as the touch sensing period.

6. The touch display device according to claim 1, wherein the touch display panel is divided into a plurality of touch blocks,

wherein all touch blocks are grouped into a plurality of groups, and

wherein the touch control unit performs an operation for sensing a touch on each of the touch blocks on a group basis during the touch sensing period.

7. A method for driving a touch display device, the method comprising:

step A for sequentially driving all gate lines of a touch display panel once during a unit field period comprising at least two continuous field periods, in such a manner that a total gate driving period corresponding to a sum of individual gate driving periods of all gate lines is shorter than the unit field period; and

step B for defining periods of the unit field period other than the total gate driving period, as a touch sensing period, and performing an operation for sensing a touch on the touch display panel during the touch sensing period.

8. The method according to claim 7, wherein the unit field period comprises four continuous field periods,

wherein the step A comprises sequentially driving (4n+1)th gate lines (n is a natural number including 0) during a first field period, sequentially driving (4n+2)th gate lines during a second field period, sequentially driving (4n+3)th gate lines during a third field period, and sequentially driving (4n+4)th gate lines during a fourth field period, and

wherein the step B comprises defining periods of the first field period other than periods in which the (4n+1)th gate lines are driven, periods of the second field period other than periods in which the (4n+2)th gate lines are driven, periods of the third field period other than periods in which the (4n+3)th gate lines are driven, and periods of the fourth field period other than periods in which the (4n+4)th gate lines are driven, as the touch sensing period

9. The method according to claim 7, wherein the unit field period comprises four continuous field periods,

wherein the step A comprises sequentially driving all gate lines during a first field period, and driving no gate line during second to fourth field periods, and

wherein the step B comprises defining the second to fourth field periods as the touch sensing period.

10. The method according to claim 7, wherein the unit field period comprises four continuous field periods,

wherein the step A comprises sequentially driving (2n+1)th gate lines (n is a natural number including 0) during a first field period, driving no gate line during a second field period, sequentially driving (2n+2)th gate lines during a third field period, and driving no gate line during a fourth field period, and

wherein the step B comprises defining periods of the first field period other than periods in which the (2n+1)th gate lines are driven, the second field period, periods of the third field period other than periods in which the (2n+2)th gate lines are driven, and the fourth field period, as the touch sensing period.

11. The method according to claim 7, wherein the unit field period comprises eight continuous field periods,

wherein the step A comprises sequentially driving (4n+1)th gate lines (n is a natural number including 0) during a first field period, driving no gate line during a second field period, sequentially driving (4n+2)th gate lines during a third field period, driving no gate line during a fourth field period, sequentially driving (4n+3)th gate lines during a fifth field period, driving no gate line during a sixth field period, sequentially driving (4n+4)th gate lines during a seventh field period, and driving no gate line during an eighth field period, and

wherein the step B comprises defining periods of the first field period other than periods in which the (4n+1)th gate lines are driven, the second field period, periods of the third field period other than periods in which the (4n+2)th gate lines are driven, the fourth field period, periods of the fifth field period other than periods in which the (4n+3)th gate lines are driven, the sixth field period, periods of the seventh field period other than periods in which the (4n+4)th gate lines are driven, and the eighth field period, as the touch sensing period.

12. The method according to claim 7, wherein the touch display panel is divided into a plurality of touch blocks,

wherein all touch blocks are grouped into a plurality of groups, and

wherein the step B comprises performing an operation for sensing a touch on each of the touch blocks on a group basis during the touch sensing period.
