Abstract

A video coding system may perform inter-layer processing by simultaneously performing inverse tone mapping and color gamut conversion scalability processes on a base layer of a video signal. The video coding system may then perform upsampling on the processed base layer. The processed base layer may be used to code an enhancement layer. Bit depth may be considered for color gamut conversion modules. Luma and/or chroma bit depths may be aligned with respective larger or smaller bit depth values of luma and/or chroma.

Claims

1. A method of coding a video signal the method comprising:

performing a first inter-layer processing on a video signal layer of the video signal, using a combined processing module that simultaneously performs inverse tone mapping and color gamut conversion scalability processes; and

performing a second inter-layer processing on the video signal layer, using an upsampling processing module.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein performing the first inter-layer processing using the combined processing module further comprising:

calculating a sample bit depth of an output luma component and a sample bit depth of output chroma components based on a sample bit depth of an input luma component and a sample bit depth of input chroma components; and

sending an indication of the sample bit depth of the output luma component and an indication of the sample bit depth of the output chroma components to the upsampling processing module.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the second inter-layer processing is performed based on the sample bit depth of the output luma component and the sample bit depth of the output chroma components.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the video signal layer is a first video signal layer, and the method further comprising:

coding a second video signal layer of the video signal based on the processed first video signal layer.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the video signal layer comprises a base layer, and the method further comprising:

predicting an enhancement layer of the video signal based on the processed base layer.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

aligning a first bit depth of a luma component of the video signal to a second bit depth of a chroma component of the video signal when performing color mapping for the chroma component; and

applying a cross color component model to the aligned luma and chroma components.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

aligning a first bit depth of a chroma component of the video signal to a second bit depth of a luma component of the video signal when performing color mapping for the luma component; and

applying a cross color component model to the aligned luma and chroma components.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the first and second bit depths are aligned with a larger value of the first bit depth and the second bit depth.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein the first and second bit depths are aligned with a smaller value of the first bit depth and the second bit depth.

10. A video coding device comprising:

a processor configured to;

perform a first inter-layer processing on a video signal layer of a video signal, using a combined processing module that simultaneously performs inverse tone mapping and color gamut conversion scalability processes; and

perform a second inter-layer processing on the video signal layer, using an upsampling processing module.

11. The video coding device of claim 10, wherein the processor is configured to perform the first inter-layer processing using the combined processing module by:

calculating a sample bit depth of an output luma component and a sample bit depth of output chroma components based on a sample bit depth of an input luma component and a sample bit depth of input chroma components; and

sending an indication of the sample bit depth of the output luma component and an indication of the sample bit depth of the output chroma components to the upsampling processing module.

12. The video coding device of claim 11, wherein the second inter-layer processing is performed based on the sample bit depth of the output luma component and the sample bit depth of the output chroma components.

13. The video coding device of claim 10, wherein the video signal layer comprises a base layer, and processor is further configured to:

code an enhancement layer of the video signal based on the processed base layer.

14. The video coding device of claim 10, wherein the video signal layer is a first video signal layer, and processor is further configured to:

predict a second video signal layer of the video signal based on the processed first video signal layer.

15. The video coding device of claim 10, wherein processor is further configured to:

align a first bit depth of a luma component of the video signal to a second bit depth of a chroma component of the video signal when performing color mapping for the chroma component; and

apply a cross color component model to the aligned luma and chroma components.

16. The video coding device of claim 10, wherein processor is further configured to:

align a first bit depth of a chroma component of the video signal to a second bit depth of a luma component of the video signal when performing color mapping for the luma component; and

apply a cross color component model to the aligned luma and chroma components.

17. The video coding device of claim 15, wherein the first and second bit depths are aligned with a larger value of the first bit depth and the second bit depth.

18. The video coding device of claim 15, wherein the first and second bit depths are aligned with a smaller value of the first bit depth and the second bit depth.

19. A method of performing color conversion from a first color space to a second color space, the method comprising:

retrieving a first color component value and a second color component value for a pixel wherein the first and second color component values are of the first color space, and wherein the first color component value is represented at a first bit depth and the second color component value is represented at a second bit depth that is different from the first bit depth;

aligning the first bit depth of the first color component value to the second bit depth of the second color component value; and

applying a cross-color component model to at least the first and second color components to convert the first and second color component values from the first color space to the second color space.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the first color component value is a luma component and the second color component value is a chroma component.
