Abstract

Data streams are generally selected according to user preferences and transmitted to the user in general alignment with expressed preferences of the user. Such data streams may be music, including music videos. Users may indicate their general or specific preferences with regards to song, artists, or albums. Any other aspects or factors that might affect the user'"'"'s preferences can be taken into account. A playlist is created that combines all of these factors. The playlist then serves as the basis for feeding the data streams to the user. Each user is able to express his or her own preferences and receive music corresponding to those preferences on an on-going basis.

Claims

1. A method of providing an Internet radio service by crowdsourcing the generation of Internet radio stations, comprising:

providing a user interface for each individual user, in a community of users, to create a personalized Internet radio station and share a created personalized Internet radio station with a community of users, each personalized Internet radio station having a song playlist generated based on at least one musical preference of each individual responsible for creating a respective personalized Internet radio station;

hosting the shared personalized Internet radio stations via a network service including a database and at least one server computer; and

providing access to subscribers, via the at least one computer server, to song playlists of the shared personalized Internet radio stations.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing, to an individual user, a listing of recommended shared personalized internet radio stations.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising providing a search user interface for a user to search for shared personalized Internet radio stations.

4. The method of claim 2, further comprising providing a listing of popular shared personalized Internet radio stations.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising associated a DJ name with an individual responsible for creating a shared personalized Internet radio station, wherein at least one of the shared personalized Internet radio stations has an associated DJ.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising providing DJ information for an individual shared personalized Internet radio station.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising providing a listing of recommended DJs.

8. The method of claim 6, further comprising providing a listing of top DJs.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein the DJ information includes a DJ image.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one server computer includes at least one of a media server, a streaming server, a HTTP server, and a central server.

17. The method of claim 1, further comprising picking a list of recommended community Internet radio stations for the user.

11. A method of providing an Internet radio service via crowdsourcing, comprising:

receiving a request of a user to create a personalized radio station;

generating a personalized radio station based on at least one musical preference of the user; and

receiving a request from the user to share the personalized internet radio station and in response hosting, via at least one server computer, the personalized radio station as a community Internet radio station accessible by members of a community.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the at least one musical preference of the user includes at least a genre selection.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the at least one musical preference of the user includes at least a mood selection.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the at least one musical preference of the user includes an artist preference.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein the at least one musical preference of the user include a rating of at least one song.

16. The method of claim 11, further comprising generating recommendations for the user of other community Internet radio stations.

18. The method of claim 11, further comprising generating a listing of popular community Internet radio stations for the user.

19. The method of claim 11, further comprising associating an individual responsible for creating a community Internet radio station as a DJ of the community Internet radio station.

20. The method of claim 11, further comprising generating a playlist for a user based on at least one musical preference of the user and preferences from a set of subscribed community Internet radio stations.

21. A method of providing an Internet radio service via crowdsourcing, comprising:

receiving requests from a multitude of different users to create personalized radio stations and in response generating for each individual different user a personalized Internet radio station based on at least one musical preference of the individual different user;

providing an option for each individual responsible for generating a personalized Internet radio station to share a respective personalized Internet radio station; and

hosting, via at least one server computer, a multitude of shared personalized Internet radio stations, wherein an individual shared personalized Internet radio station is accessible by members of a community of users.

22. The method of claim 21, further comprising providing, to an individual user, a listing of recommended shared personalized internet radio stations.

23. The method of claim 22, further comprising providing a search user interface for a user to search for shared personalized Internet radio stations.

24. The method of claim 21, further comprising providing a listing of popular shared personalized Internet radio stations.

25. The method of claim 21, further comprising associating a DJ name with an individual responsible for creating a shared personalized Internet radio station.

26. The method of claim 25, further comprising providing DJ information for an individual shared personalized Internet radio station.

27. The method of claim 25, further comprising providing a listing of recommended DJs.

28. The method of claim 25, further comprising providing a listing of top DJs.

29. The method of claim 25, wherein the DJ information includes a DJ image

30. The method of claim 21, wherein the at least one server computer includes at least one of a media server, a streaming server, a HTTP server, and a central server.
