Abstract

Methods and apparatus to manage virtual machines are disclosed. An example method includes storing an indication that a first system resource is associated with a first service level, storing an indication that a second system resource is associated with a second service level, during deployment of a virtual machine, determining that the virtual machine is associated with the first service level, and in response to the determining, deploying the virtual machine utilizing the first resource.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

storing an indication that a first system resource is associated with a first service level;

storing an indication that a second system resource is associated with a second service level;

during deployment of a virtual machine, determining that the virtual machine is associated with the first service level; and

in response to the determining, deploying the virtual machine utilizing the first resource.

2. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the first system resource is a first service associated with a task and the second resource is a second service associated with the task.

3. A method as defined in claim 2, wherein deploying the virtual machine comprises executing the task.

4. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the first service level is associated with a first cost and the second service level is associated with a second cost different than the first cost.

5. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein deploying the virtual machine comprises deploying a virtual machine blueprint.

6. A method as defined in claim 5, further comprising:

determining that a second deployment of the virtual machine blueprint is associated with the second service level; and

deploying the virtual machine blueprint utilizing the second resource.

7. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the first service level is associated with a plurality of tasks to be performed while deploying the virtual machine.

8. A method as defined in claim 7, wherein the plurality of tasks include plugins to be included in the deployed virtual machine.

9. An apparatus comprising:

a profile datastore;

a profile designer to store an indication that a first system resource is associated with a first service level in the profile datastore and to store an indication that a second system resource is associated with a second service level in the profile datastore;

a request receiver to, during deployment of a virtual machine, determine that the virtual machine is associated with the first service level; and

a service executor responsive to the request receiver to deploy the virtual machine utilizing the first resource identified by the first service level.

10. An apparatus as defined in claim 9, wherein the first system resource is a first service associated with a task and the second resource is a second service associated with the task.

11. An apparatus as defined in claim 10, wherein the service executor is to deploy the virtual machine by executing the task.

12. An apparatus as defined in claim 9, wherein the first service level is associated with a first cost and the second service level is associated with a second cost different than the first cost.

13. An apparatus as defined in claim 9, wherein the service executor is to deploy the virtual machine by deploying a virtual machine blueprint.

14. An apparatus as defined in claim 13, wherein the request receiver is to determine that a second deployment of the virtual machine blueprint is associated with the second service level and the service executor is to deploy the virtual machine blueprint utilizing the second resource.

15. An apparatus as defined in claim 9, wherein the first service level is associated with a plurality of tasks to be performed while deploying the virtual machine.

16. An apparatus as defined in claim 15, wherein the plurality of tasks include plugins to be included in the deployed virtual machine.

17. A tangible computer readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed, cause a machine to at least:

store an indication that a first system resource is associated with a first service level;

store an indication that a second system resource is associated with a second service level;

during deployment of a virtual machine, determine that the virtual machine is associated with the first service level; and

in response to the determining, deploy the virtual machine utilizing the first resource.

18. A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 17, wherein the first system resource is a first service associated with a task and the second resource is a second service associated with the task.

19. A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 18, wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the machine to deploy the virtual machine by executing the task.

20. A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 17, wherein the first service level is associated with a first cost and the second service level is associated with a second cost different than the first cost.

21. A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 17, wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the machine to deploy the virtual machine by deploying a virtual machine blueprint.

22. A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 21, wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the machine to:

determine that a second deployment of the virtual machine blueprint is associated with the second service level; and

deploy the virtual machine blueprint utilizing the second resource.

23. A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 17, wherein the first service level is associated with a plurality of tasks to be performed while deploying the virtual machine.

24. A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 23, wherein the plurality of tasks include plugins to be included in the deployed virtual machine.
