1. A method for operating a direct current (DC) motor, the method comprising:
- generating a first pulse width modulated (PWM) signal having a first duty cycle;
providing the first PWM signal as a PWM DC output for the DC motor;
adjusting the first duty cycle to control a speed of the DC motor;
sensing an electric current output to the motor using a current sensor; and
when the sensed current exceeds a threshold, holding the PWM DC output off.

Abstract
A method for operating a direct current (DC) motor is shown and described. The method includes generating a first pulse width modulated (PWM) signal having a first duty cycle, providing the first PWM signal as a PWM DC output for the DC motor, and adjusting the first duty cycle to control a speed of the DC motor. The method further includes sensing an electric current output to the motor using a current sensor and, when the sensed current exceeds a threshold, holding the PWM DC output off.

12. A device for operating a direct current (DC) motor, the device comprising:
-
a circuit configured to generate a first pulse width modulated (PWM) signal having a first duty cycle adjustable to control a speed of the DC motor and to provide the first PWM signal as a PWM DC output for the DC motor; and a current sensor coupled to the circuit and configured to sense an electric current output to the motor; wherein the circuit is configured to compare a value representative of the sensed current to a threshold and to hold the PWM DC output off in response to the value representative of the sensed current exceeding the threshold. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
