Abstract

Location information associated with a wireless access point is used to assist with emergency call routing. Additionally, the location information can be used to assist with determining where an emergency call is physically originating from. This location information is one or more of enterable, detectable and/or populated with the assistance of a location determining device, such as a GPS, associated with the wireless network. The location information can also be dynamic to account for mobile wireless access points, such as a mobile access point provided on public transportation. The location information is also associatiable with an outbound communication, such as an emergency communication, with this location information usable to route the communication to an appropriate entity(ies).

21. A communications device comprising:

a processor;

a memory; and

a wireless network emergency application adapted to receive a current location of the communications device based on two or more wireless access points, that have or have acquired location information, determining the mobile communication'"'"'s device location.

22. The system of claim 21, wherein the current location is based on signal strengths.

23. The system of claim 21, wherein the current location is included in a SIP message.

24. The system of claim 21, wherein the current location is included in a SIP message to a PSAP (Public Service Answering Point).

25. The system of claim 21, wherein the two or more wireless access points are associated with a moving vehicle.

26. The system of claim 21, wherein the acquired location information is from a GPS device associated with the wireless access point.

27. The system of claim 21, wherein the acquired location information is input into the wireless access point by a network administrator.

28. The system of claim 21, wherein the acquired location information is dynamically updated based on information from a GPS device associated with the wireless access point.

29. The system of claim 21, wherein location information is provided in an SSID.

30. A method comprising:

receiving, at a wireless communication device, a current location of the communications device based on two or more wireless access points, that have or have acquired location information, determining the mobile communication'"'"'s device location.

31. The method of claim 30, wherein the current location is based on signal strengths.

32. The method of claim 30, wherein the current location is included in a SIP message.

33. The method of claim 30, wherein the current location is included in a SIP message to a PSAP (Public Service Answering Point).

34. The method of claim 30, wherein the two or more wireless access points are associated with a moving vehicle.

35. The method of claim 30, wherein the acquired location information is from a GPS device associated with the wireless access point.

36. The method of claim 30, wherein the acquired location information is input into the wireless access point by a network administrator.

37. The method of claim 30, wherein the acquired location information is dynamically updated based on information from a GPS device associated with the wireless access point.

38. The method of claim 30, wherein location information is provided in an SSID.

39. A system comprising:

a mobile communications device adapted to send a text message to a Public Service Answering Point, the text message indicating one or more of;

a wireless access point the mobile communications device is communicating with and location information for the mobile communications device.

40. The system of claim 39, wherein the text message further includes one or more identifications of one or more wireless access points in range.

41. The system of claim 39, wherein the location information is in a SIP message.
