Abstract

A device, system, and method to provide access to a storage device based on biometric verification. A computing device includes a wireless transceiver configured to communicate wirelessly with a data network, a user interface configured to receive a user input to access data from a storage device in communication with the data network, and a biometric characteristic reader configured to receive user characteristic data to verify a user'"'"'s identity. The computing device is configured to access the data from the storage device via the wireless transceiver and the data network based on verification of the user'"'"'s identity.

Claims

1. A computing device, comprising:

a wireless transceiver configured to communicate wirelessly with a data network;

a user interface configured to receive a user input to access data from a storage device in communication with the data network; and

a biometric characteristic reader configured to receive user characteristic data to verify a user'"'"'s identity,

wherein the computing device is configured to access the data from the storage device via the wireless transceiver and the data network based on verification of the user'"'"'s identity.

2. The computing device of claim 1, wherein the data network is the Internet, and the storage device is connected to the Internet to perform at least one of sending and receiving of data over the Internet.

3. The computing device of claim 2, wherein the wireless transceiver includes a cellular transceiver, and

the wireless transceiver is configured to perform at least one of sending and receiving of data over the Internet via a cellular network.

4. The computing device of claim 1, wherein the data network is an Internet Protocol (IP) network, and

the wireless transceiver is configured to perform at least one of sending and receiving of data over the IP network using a routable address of the storage device.

5. The computing device of claim 1, wherein the wireless transceiver is configured to communicate over the data network using at least one of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth protocols.

6. A computing system, comprising:

a storage device in communication with a data network; and

a computing device comprising a wireless transceiver configured to communicate wirelessly with the data network, a user interface configured to receive a user input to access data from the storage device, and a biometric characteristic reader configured to receive user characteristic data to verify a user'"'"'s identity,

wherein the computing device is configured to access the data from the storage device via the wireless transceiver and the data network based on verification of the user'"'"'s identity.

7. The computing system of claim 6, wherein the data network is the Internet, and the storage device is connected to the Internet to perform at least one of sending and receiving of data over the Internet.

8. The computing system of claim 7, wherein the wireless transceiver includes a cellular transceiver, and

the wireless transceiver is configured to perform at least one of sending and receiving of data over the Internet via a cellular network.

9. The computing system of claim 6, wherein the data network is an Internet Protocol (IP) network, and

the wireless transceiver is configured to perform at least one of sending and receiving of data over the IP network using a routable address of the storage device.

10. The computing system of claim 6, wherein the wireless transceiver is configured to communicate over the data network using at least one of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth protocols.

11. A method, comprising:

receiving a user input at a user interface of a computing device to access a storage device in communication with a data network, the computing device being in wireless communication with the storage device via a data network;

receiving, by a biometric characteristic reader, a biometric characteristic of a user;

verifying an identity of the user based on the biometric characteristic of the user; and

wirelessly accessing the storage device by the computing device based on the verifying the identity of the user.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the data network is the Internet, and the storage device is connected to the Internet to perform at least one of sending and receiving of data over the Internet.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the computing device includes a cellular transceiver, and

the computing device performs at least one of sending and receiving of data over the Internet via a cellular network.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the data network is an Internet Protocol (IP) network, and

the wireless transceiver is configured to perform at least one of sending and receiving of data over the IP network using a routable address of the storage device.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein the computing device communicates with the storage device over the data network using at least one of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth protocols.
