Abstract

A power supply system may include a target device and an adapter. The target device may include an adapter connection switch that receives adapter recognition information to form a connection with the adapter, a voltage detection unit that receives an output voltage from an adapter, and a voltage-change-requesting unit that outputs a voltage to request a voltage change based on information on the output voltage from the adapter. The adapter may include a device information recognition unit that receives the voltage to request a voltage change, and an output-voltage-changing unit that changes the output voltage based on the voltage to request a voltage change.

Claims

1. A power supply system comprising a target device and an adapter,

the target device including

an adapter connection switch that receives adapter recognition information to connect to the adapter,

a voltage detection unit that receives an output voltage from the adapter, and

a voltage-change-requesting unit that outputs a signal to request a voltage change based on information on the output voltage from the adapter;

the adapter including

a device information recognition unit that receives the signal to request a voltage change, and

an output-voltage-changing unit that changes the output voltage based on the signal to request a voltage change.

2. The power supply system of claim 1, wherein the voltage-change-requesting unit in the target device is connected to the device information recognition unit in the adapter via a USB data cable.

3. The power supply system of claim 1, wherein the adapter further includes an adapter information output unit that outputs adapter information to the target device.

4. The power supply system of claim 1, wherein the target device further includes a control unit operably connected to the adapter connection switch, the voltage detection unit and the change-requesting unit.

5. The power supply system of claim 1, wherein the adapter further includes a control unit operably connected to the device information recognition unit and the output-voltage-changing unit.

6. The power supply system of claim 2, wherein the device information recognition unit includes voltage-dividing resistors to detect a level of a voltage in the USB data cable.

7. A power supply system comprising a target device and an adapter,

the target device including

an adapter connection switch that receives adapter recognition information to connect to the adapter,

a voltage detection unit that receives an output voltage from an adapter, and

a voltage-change-requesting unit that outputs a voltage to request a voltage change based on information on the output voltage from the adapter;

and

the adapter including

a device information recognition unit that receives the voltage to request a voltage change, and

an output-voltage-changing unit that changes the output voltage based on the voltage to request a voltage change

The power supply system of claim 7, wherein the voltage-change-requesting unit in the target device is connected to the device information recognition unit in the adapter via a USB data cable, and wherein the device information recognition unit includes voltage-dividing resistors to detect a level of a voltage in the USB data cable.

9. A method for controlling a power supply system, comprising:

determining whether a device is connected at a first time point and at a second time point;

determining a specification for supplying power based on whether the device is connected at the first time point and on whether the device is connected at the second time point; and

supplying power based on the specification for supplying power.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the determining of the specification for supplying power includes:

receiving the signal to request a voltage change to change the specification for supplying power, if it is determined that the device is connected at the first time point and that the device is disconnected at the second time point.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the determining of the specification for supplying power includes:

maintaining the specification for supplying power, if it is determined that the device is connected at the first time point and that the device is connected at the second time point.

12. A power supply device, comprising:

a USB data cable;

a device information recognition unit that includes voltage-dividing resistors and receives a signal to request a voltage change from a target device via the USB data cable; and

an output-voltage-changing unit that changes an output voltage based on the signal to request a voltage change.
