1. A handheld electronic device, comprising:
- a housing having an oblong-shaped user-facing surface, and being structurally dimensioned and shaped to have a bottom surface of the housing configured to be cradled by a palm of a partially closed hand with at least one of a middle, a ring, and a pinkie finger of the hand wrapping around and encircling the bottom surface of the housing while at least a thumb of the hand can be used to provide input to the handheld electronic device by operating at least one input device arranged at the user-facing surface;
a button arranged at a lateral center of the user-facing surface and being operable by at least the thumb of the hand when the housing is cradled with at least one of the middle, the ring, and the pinkie finger of the hand wrapping around and encircling the bottom surface of the housing, wherein the button is configured to invoke a home function in response being operated; and
a touch-sensitive panel arranged at the user-facing surface and being operable by at least the thumb of the hand.

at least one wireless transceiver; a user-facing surface shaped substantially as an oblong rectangle; a touch-sensitive panel located on the user-facing surface; a vibration device configured to provide vibration-feedback by actuating the handheld electronic device based upon a signal received by the wireless transceiver; and a button configured to invoke a home function in response to an input from a user holding the handheld electronic device, the button being arranged centrally at the user-facing surface between two long edges of the rectangle.

a housing having an oblong-shaped top surface; a touch-sensitive input device located on the oblong-shaped top surface of the housing; a home button centrally located in a horizontal direction on the oblong-shaped top surface below the touch-sensitive input device; an inertial sensor configured to detect data related to aspects of at least one of position, attitude and orientation of the handheld electronic device; and a microprocessor operatively coupled to the touch-sensitive input device, the home button, and the inertial sensor, the microprocessor configured to process input signals provided from the touch-sensitive input device, the home button, and the inertial sensor.
