Abstract

A system and a method for controlling an electronic device embedded in a package of a consumer product are disclosed. In one aspect, the consumer product packaging includes a bottle for a beverage, a memory, a receiver and a circuit. The memory stores an action to be performed in response to an input. The receiver receives the input indicative of movement of the bottle. The circuit retrieves the action stored in memory upon receipt of the input and command an electronic communication module to perform the action at a particular time or in a particular sequence.

Claims

1. A consumer product package having an embedded electronic device, the package comprising:

a bottle configured to package a beverage;

a memory configured to store an action to be performed in response to an input;

a receiver configured to receive a physical input indicative of movement of the bottle; and

a circuit configured to retrieve the action stored in the memory upon receipt of the physical input and command an electronic communication module to perform the action, wherein the circuit is configured to command the electronic communication module at a particular time or in a particular sequence based on receiving the physical input, wherein the action comprises instructions to activate a light in the bottle, wherein the electronic communication module is configured to perform the action based on the command received from the circuit, and wherein the particular time is stored in the memory and corresponds to how long to wait before performing the action after receiving the physical input.

2. An electronic device for providing a presentation, the electronic device comprising:

a memory configured to store at least one data item, the at least one data item indicative of at least one action to be output by the electronic device, wherein the at least one data item is a portion of a storyboard, wherein the storyboard is indicative of the presentation to promote a consumer product, and wherein the electronic device output is communicated to an audience;

packaging of the consumer product being promoted having an electronic communication capability;

an input module configured to receive input from another electronic device or a user of the consumer product; and

a controller configured to;

retrieve the data item from the memory, wherein the retrieved data item includes time synchronization information so as to synchronize the action with the received input; and

control the electronic communication capability to take the action so as to communicate the presentation to the audience being in proximity to the electronic device.

3. The electronic device of claim 2, wherein the controller is programmable with instructions for the controller to control the electronic communication capability so as to output at least one of:

a light, an image, a video, an audio segment, a sound and at least a portion of the consumer product.

4. The electronic device of claim 2, wherein the electronic communication capability comprises at least one of:

a screen, a speaker, a projector, a servo, a network connection and an optical device.

5. The electronic device of claim 2, wherein the controller is further configured to control the electronic communication capability so as to communicate the action from the electronic device to the other electronic device, wherein the communicated action instructs a controller of the other electronic device so as to output at least one of:

a light, an image, a video, an audio segment, a sound and a product at the other electronic device.

6. The electronic device of claim 2, wherein the input received at the input module indicates a presence of the other electronic device, and wherein the input comprises a wireless communication of data from the other electronic device.

7. The electronic device of claim 2, wherein the storyboard comprises a plurality of sub-storyboards, wherein each sub-storyboard is configured to control the output by a subset of the other electronic device.

8. The electronic device of claim 2, wherein the action associated with the data item is communicated to the audience based on the received input from the other electronic device.

9. The electronic device of claim 2, wherein the packaging of the consumer product comprises one or more of a bottle, a can, a box, and a container of any material.

10. The electronic device of claim 2, wherein the input module is further configured to receive a new data item indicative of at least one new action requiring time synchronized output by the electronic device upon receipt.

11. The electronic device of claim 2, wherein the presentation is an advertisement, and wherein the consumer product is being promoted by the advertisement.

12. The electronic device of claim 2, wherein the electronic device output comprises a flashing light, wherein the packaging of the consumer product comprises a bottle, wherein the input module is configured to detect physical movement caused by impact with the other electronic device, and wherein the controller is configured to cause the light to flash in time synchronization with an impact from the other electronic device.

13. A method of controlling a presentation by an electronic device embedded in the packaging of a consumer product, the method comprising:

storing at least one data item, the data item indicative of at least one action to be output by the electronic device, wherein the data item is a portion of a storyboard, the storyboard is indicative of a presentation to promote a consumer product, and wherein the electronic device output is communicated to an audience;

receiving an input from another electronic device or a user of the consumer product;

retrieving the data item from a memory, wherein the retrieved data item includes time synchronization information so as to synchronize the action with the received input; and

communicating the presentation to the audience via the packaging of the consumer product being promoted, wherein communicating the presentation comprises taking the action and wherein the audience is proximate to the consumer product.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein communicating the presentation to the audience via the packaging of the consumer product being promoted comprises communicating the presentation via at least one of:

a screen, a speaker, a projection, a servo, a network connection, and an optical device.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the action is to cause a controller of the electronic device to communicate so as to output at least one of:

a light, an image, a video, an audio segment, a sound and a product at the other electronic device.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein the input received indicates a presence of the other electronic device and comprises a communication from other electronic device.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein the other electronic device comprises a plurality of other electronic devices in proximity of the electronic device and wherein the storyboard comprises a plurality of sub-storyboards, wherein each sub-storyboard is configured to control output by a subset of the electronic devices.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the communication of the action to the audience is communicated based on time synchronization with the received input from the electronic device.

19. The method of claim 13, wherein the packaging of the consumer product comprises one or more of a bottle, a can, a box, and a container of any material.

20. The method of claim 13, further comprising receiving a new data item indicative of at least one new action requiring time synchronized output by the electronic device upon receipt.
