Abstract

A wireless power transmission system, and a method for controlling wireless power transmission and wireless power reception are provided. According to an aspect, a method for controlling a wireless power transmission may include: detecting a plurality of target devices used to wirelessly receive power; selecting a source resonating unit from among a plurality of source resonating units, based on the amount of power to be transmitted to one or more of the plurality of target devices, a coupling factor associated with one or more of the plurality of target devices, or both; and wirelessly transmitting power to a target device using the selected source resonating unit.

Claims

1. A method for controlling a wireless power transmission, the method comprising:

detecting a target device used to wirelessly receive power;

selecting a source resonating unit from among a plurality of source resonating units, based on the amount of power to be transmitted to the target devices, information on an identifier (ID) of the target device, or both; and

wirelessly transmitting power to the target device via the selected source resonating unit.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the selecting comprises:

selecting the source resonating unit transmitting the largest amount of power to the target device from among the plurality of source resonating units.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the selecting comprises:

verifying a first power amount of power to be transmitted to a first target device adjacent to a first source resonating unit, and a second power amount of power to be transmitted to a second target device adjacent to a second source resonating unit; and

selecting the source resonating unit between the first source resonating unit and the second source resonating unit, based on a result of the comparison between the first power amount and the second power amount.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein a first target resonator of the first target device is different in size or in the number of turns of a coil from a second target resonator of the second target device.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the selecting comprises:

selecting the source resonating unit having the highest coupling factor with respect to one or more of the plurality of target devices from among the plurality of source resonating units.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the selecting comprises:

selecting the source resonating unit based on location information of the target device.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the location information is determined based on ID information of the plurality of source resonating units.

8. A method for controlling a wireless power transmission, the method comprising:

transmitting, to a target device, a detecting signal comprising ID information of a plurality of source resonating unit;

receiving, from the target device, a response signal generated based on the ID information of the plurality of source resonating unit;

determining a location of the target device based on the response signal;

selecting a source resonating unit from among the plurality of source resonating units based on the location of the target device; and

wirelessly transmitting power to the target device via the selected source resonating unit.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the response signal comprising the ID information of the plurality of source resonating unit.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein the selecting comprising:

selecting the source resonating unit based on the amount of power to be transmitted to the target devices, information on an identifier (ID) of the target device, or both, received from the target device.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the plurality of source resonating units are identified by the ID information of the plurality of source resonating units.

12. A wireless power receiver comprising:

a communication unit configured to transmit, to a wireless power transmitter, information on an identifier (ID) of the wireless power receiver, information on the amount of power to be used in the wireless power receiver, or both; and

a power receiving unit configured to wirelessly receive power from a source resonating unit of the wireless power transmitter,

wherein the source resonating unit is selected among a plurality of source resonating units of the wireless power transmitter, based on at least of the information on the ID of the wireless power receiver or the information on the amount of power to be used in the wireless power receiver.

13. The wireless power receiver of claim 12, wherein the power receiving unit configured to wirelessly receive power from the source resonating unit, to wirelessly receive power from a target resonator of another wireless power receiver, or both.

The wireless power receiver of claim 13, wherein the power receiving unit wirelessly receives the power from the source resonating unit when the amount of the power to be used in the wireless power receiver is greater than the amount of power to be used in the other wireless power receiver, and

wherein the power receiving unit wirelessly receives the power from the target resonator when the amount of the power to be used in the wireless power receiver is less than the amount of the power to be used in the other wireless power receiver.

15. The wireless power receiver of claim 13, wherein the communication unit configured to receive, from each of the plurality of source resonating units, ID information of the plurality of source resonating units.

16. The wireless power receiver of claim 15, wherein the plurality of source resonating units are identified by the ID information of the plurality of source resonating units.
