Abstract

A method for configuring a Minimization of Drive Test (MDT) information reporting format and a time-stamp is provided that supports MDT in a 3^rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) system. The method defines a reporting format needed in a process where UE transmits MDT measurements to a serving base station, and sets the number of bits required to log time stamp and the unit of logging time.

Claims

1. A method for transmitting a message by a terminal in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

logging measurement information associated with relative time information measured relative to absolute time information; and

transmitting a message including the logged measurement information, the relative time information and the absolute time information to a based station.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the relative time information is a value in seconds.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the relative time information is logged in a relative time information element, and a size of the relative time information element is fixed.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving measurement configuration message including the absolute time information from the base station.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the received measurement configuration message further includes sampling cycle information.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the logging of the measurement information comprises:

logging the measurement information associated with the relative time information measured relative to the absolute time information at cycles based on the sampling cycle information.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein the received measurement configuration message further includes measurement duration information.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the logging of the measurement information is performed during a period of time based on the measurement duration information.

9. A terminal in a wireless communication system, the terminal comprising:

a transceiver for transmitting and receiving a signal; and

a controller configured;

to control logging measurement information associated with relative time information measured relative to absolute time information, and

to control the transceiver to transmit a message including the logged measurement information, the relative time information and the absolute time information to a based station.

10. The terminal of claim 9, wherein the relative time information is a value in seconds.

11. The terminal of claim 10, wherein the relative time information is logged in a relative time information element, and a size of the relative time information element is fixed.

12. The terminal of claim 9, wherein the controller is further configured to control receiving measurement configuration message including the absolute time information from the base station.

13. The terminal of claim 12, wherein the received measurement configuration message further includes sampling cycle information.

14. The terminal of claim 13, the controller is configured to control logging the measurement information associated with the relative time information measured relative to the absolute time information at cycles based on the sampling cycle information.

15. The terminal of claim 12, wherein the received measurement configuration message further includes measurement duration information.

16. The terminal of claim 15, wherein the controller is configured to control performing the logging the measurement information during a period of time based on the measurement duration information.
