Abstract

A method and system for providing recommendations based on status messages of contacts added in social networks is provided. The method includes parsing one or more status messages of one or more contacts added in one or more social networks. Further, the method includes extracting information from the one or more status messages. Furthermore, the method includes providing at least one recommendation to a user based on the extracted information.

Claims

1. A method of providing recommendations based on status messages of contacts added in social networks, the method comprising:

parsing one or more status messages of one or more contacts added in one or more social networks;

extracting information from the one or more status messages; and

providing at least one recommendation to a user based on the extracted information.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein the status messages are a plurality of text strings conveying information, updated by corresponding contacts in the social networks.

3. The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein parsing one or more status messages further comprises:

detecting an update in status of contacts in social applications;

detecting an update in status of contacts in notifications; and

detecting an update in status of contacts by any other possible notification method.

4. The method as claimed in claim 3, wherein detecting an update in status comprises:

comparing a current status to a previous status using string matching techniques and various other detection techniques; and

identifying one or more keywords in the updated status.

5. The method as claimed in claim 1 and further comprising:

providing the user with an option to define settings for recommendations to be provided; and

providing the user with an option to select one or more contacts for status update parsing.

6. The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein providing recommendations further comprises:

detecting one or more factors from the status messages; and

recommending actions to the user based on the one or more factors detected.

7. The method as claimed in claim 6, wherein the factors are mood of the contact, location of the contact, event of the contact, album titles and an individual in the album.

8. A method of performing actions based on status messages of contacts added in social networks, the method comprising:

parsing one or more status messages of one or more contacts added in one or more social networks;

extracting information from the one or more status messages; and

performing at least one action.

9. The method as claimed in claim 8, further comprising:

verifying the extracted information for duplicity; and

ignoring the extracted information once the extracted information is confirmed of duplicity.

10. The method as claimed in claim 8 and further comprising:

providing at least one of a query and a notification in future based upon the action performed in the past.

11. A method of providing recommendations based on social updates of contacts added in social networks, the method comprising:

parsing one or more social updates of one or more contacts added in one or more social networks;

extracting information from the one or more social updates; and

providing at least one recommendation to a user based on the extracted information.

12. The method as claimed in claim 11, wherein the social updates are status messages and notifications that appear on the user'"'"'s home page.

13. A method of performing actions based on social updates of contacts added in social networks, the method comprising:

parsing one or more social updates of one or more contacts added in one or more social networks;

extracting information from the one or more social updates; and

performing at least one action directly.

14. The method as claimed in claim 13, wherein the social updates are status messages and notifications that appear on the user'"'"'s web page.

15. The method as claimed in claim 13 and further comprising:

providing at least one of a query and a notification in future based upon the action performed in the past.

16. A system for providing recommendations based on social updates in social networks, the system comprising:

a parser to parse social updates of contacts connected in social networks to identify one or more social updates;

a processing module operable to extract information from the one or more social updates;

a recommendation module to provide recommendations based on the extracted information to a user; and

a remote server.

17. The method as claimed in claim 16, wherein the social updates are status messages and notifications that appear on a user'"'"'s home page.

18. The system as claimed in claim 16, wherein at least one of the parser and the processing module resides in the remote server.

19. A system for performing actions based on social updates in social networks, the system comprising:

a parser to parse social updates of contacts connected in social networks to identify one or more social updates;

a processing module operable to extract information from the one or more social updates;

an action module to perform actions based on the extracted information to a user; and

a remote server.

20. The method as claimed in claim 19, wherein the social updates are status messages and notifications that appear on a user'"'"'s home page.

21. The system as claimed in claim 19, wherein at least one of parsing the social updates and extracting information from the social updates is performed on a remote server.
