Abstract

Nail polish remover strips are pre-sized for toe or fingernails and applied to a painted or artificial nail and left thereon for a predetermined period of time to dissolve the nail polish and/or nail bonding agent. Preferably a color change occurs to depict the appropriate dwelling time to dissolve the nail polish. Certain embodiments include odor reducing components. Preferably the strips are layered composites having an exterior odor impervious material, a layer of encapsulated acetone or nail polish removing agent, an absorbent layer, and a peelable backing, with the strips being sized to accommodate contact with a person'"'"'s nail.

Claims

1. A solvent absorbent layered strip, comprising:

at least four layers, with a first layer comprising an odor impervious material, a second layer that comprises at least one encapsulated solvent, a third layer having a solvent absorbent material, and a fourth layer comprising an adhesive and having a peelable backing, wherein the solvent is encapsulated in a frangible enclosure and is present in an amount of at least about 0.5 ml.

2. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, further comprising a color change indicator in one of the second layer and the third layer.

3. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, further comprising a color change indicator included between said first layer and said fourth layer that is adapted to produce a color change sufficient to indicate that a predetermined time has transpired.

4. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein said frangible enclosure comprises a capsule attached to the absorbent material.

5. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein the strip has a thickness of between 0.5 millimeters and 3 millimeters.

6. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein said solvent is selected from the group consisting of:

acetone, alkyl nitrite, isobutyl nitrite, nitrous acid, isobutyl ester;

2-methylpropyl ester;

acetonitrile, butylated linseed oil, sodium bicarbonate, isobutyl alcohol, calcium chloride, N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide, pyrethrins, neem leaf extract, neem oil, citronella and geraniol, transfluthrin, vaporthrin, metofluthrin, profluthrin, dihydronepetalactone, dihydronepetalactone, aliphatic alcohol;

cyclo(ethoxy) methicone, bisphenyl hexamethicone, alkyl methicone, cetyl dimethicone polyol;

glycol ricinoleate, polyglyceryl ricinoleate, propylene glycol ricinoleate, and glyceryl ricinoleate;

octyldodecanol polyhydroxy polyoxyethylene, polyoxypropylene, ethylene diamine;

butylene glycol, propylene glycol, methyl propanediol, methyl propanediol, isostearyl neopentanoate;

aminobenzoic acid, glyceryl aminobenzoic acid, oxybenzone, sulisobenzone, dioxybenzone, titanium ioxide, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, citronella, soybean oil and geranium oil.

7. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein the frangible enclosure comprises material selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinylchloride, and polytetrafluoroethylene, polystyrene, polyvinylchloride, and polyvinyl acetate.

8. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein two different solvents are contained in said frangible enclosure, with one solvent selected from the group consisting of acetone, dihydronepetalactone and N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide.

9. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, further including at least one of an odor reducer and a color change agent.

10. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein said solvent absorbent material is selected from the group consisting of cotton fibers, synthetic fibers, plastic fibers, semi-porous material, a sponge, woven fabrics, non-woven fabrics, gauze, and foam.

11. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein the frangible enclosure has a hollow interior that defines a reservoir for containing one of a solvent, a color change material, and an odor reducing agent.

12. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein said frangible enclosure comprises a capsule that contains more than one substance.

13. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein the frangible enclosure is adapted to keep solvent material from vaporizing into the air.

14. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein said first layer forms a barrier between the solvent and the skin of a user.

15. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein the solvent absorbent layered strip is adapted to be placed on a person'"'"'s body in a manner such that the second layer and the third layer are adjacent to each other and the fourth layer is adjacent said person'"'"'s body.

16. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, further comprising an odor reducing agent comprising hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin.

17. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein the solvent absorbent strip is constructed so that the first layer is adjacent to the second layer.

18. The solvent absorbent layered strip as set forth in claim 1, wherein the solvent absorbent layered strip has the second layer and the third layer adjacent to each other and the fourth layer is adjacent the first layer.

19. A solvent absorbent layered strip, comprising:

at least four layers, with a first layer comprising an odor impervious material, a second layer that comprises one of encapsulated solvent, a third layer having a solvent absorbent material, and a fourth layer comprising an adhesive and having a peelable backing;

wherein the solvent is encapsulated in a frangible enclosure and is present in an amount of at least about 0.5 ml; and

a color change indicator included between said first layer and said fourth layer that is adapted to produce a color change sufficient to indicate that a predetermined time has transpired.

20. A solvent absorbent layered strip, comprising:

at least four layers, with a first layer that comprises an odor impervious material, a second layer that comprises an encapsulated solvent selected from the group consisting of acetone, N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide, dihydronepetalactone, dihydronepetalactone, aliphatic alcohol, oil of lemon eucalyptus, citronella, soybean oil, and geranium oil;

a third layer having a solvent absorbent material selected from the group consisting of cotton fibers, synthetic fibers, plastic fibers, semi-porous material, a sponge, woven fabrics, non-woven fabrics, gauze, and foam, and a fourth layer comprising an adhesive and having a peelable backing;

wherein the encapsulated solvent is contained within a frangible enclosure comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinylchloride, polytetrafluoroethylene, polystyrene, polyvinylchloride, and polyvinyl acetate; and

wherein said first layer forms a barrier between the solvent and the skin of a user.
