Abstract

A method of selecting and presenting content on a first system based on user preferences learned on a second system is provided. The method includes receiving a user'"'"'s input for identifying items of the second content system and, in response thereto, presenting a subset of items of the second content system and receiving the user'"'"'s selection actions thereof. The method includes analyzing the selected items to learn the user'"'"'s content preferences for the content of the second content system and determining a relationship between the content of the first and second content systems to determine preferences relevant to items of the first content system. The method includes, in response subsequent user input for items of the first content system, selecting and ordering a collection of items of the first content system based on the user'"'"'s learned content preferences determined to be relevant to the items of the first content system.

11. A method of selecting and presenting a content item of a first content system in which the selection and presentation is based on content preferences of the user learned from user interactions with content items from a plurality of dataspaces of a user device, the method comprising:

monitoring user interactions with a plurality of content items on a mobile device, wherein the mobile device has a plurality of dataspaces, and wherein each content item of the plurality of content items has an associated descriptive term to describe the respective content item;

analyzing the associated descriptive term for each content item of the plurality of content items of the plurality of dataspaces with which a user interacted to learn content preferences of the user for the plurality of content items on the mobile device;

determining a subset of the content preferences that are relevant to the plurality of content items of a first content system; and

subsequent to determining the subset of the content preferences, selecting and presenting a content item of the plurality of content items of the first content system based on the subset the content preferences of the user determined to be relevant to the plurality of content items of the first content system.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the plurality of dataspaces comprises at least one of a phone, phone book, address book, calendar, downloadable media content, television, travel, web, and book dataspaces.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the first content system is a third-party service provider.

The method of claim 11, wherein presenting the content item further comprises presenting the content item of the plurality of content items of the first content system in response to receiving incremental input entered by the user for incrementally identifying desired content items of the plurality of content items of the first content system.

The method of claim 11, wherein the selecting and presenting of the content item is further based on popularity values associated with each content item of the plurality of content items, and wherein each popularity value indicates a relative measure of a likelihood that the respective content item is desired by the user.

16. The method of claim 11, wherein the plurality of content items of the first content system or the plurality of dataspaces of the mobile device are contained on at least one of a cable television system, a video-on-demand system, an IPTV system, and a personal video recorder.

17. The method of claim 11, wherein the first content system has not characterized the content preferences of the user.

18. The method of claim 11, wherein monitoring user interactions further comprises monitoring the user interactions with the plurality of dataspaces of the mobile device.

19. A system for selecting and presenting a content item of a first content system in which the selection and presentation is based on content preferences of the user learned from user interactions with content items from a plurality of dataspaces of a user device, the system comprising:

storage circuitry; and

control circuitry configured to;

monitor user interactions with a plurality of content items on a mobile device, wherein the mobile device has a plurality of dataspaces, and wherein each content item of the plurality of content items has an associated descriptive term to describe the respective content item;

analyze the associated descriptive term for each content item of the plurality of content items of the plurality of dataspaces with which a user interacted to learn content preferences of the user for the content items on the mobile device;

determine a subset of the content preferences that are relevant to the plurality of content items of a first content system; and

subsequent to determining the subset of the content preferences, select and present a content item of the plurality of content items of the first content system based on the subset of the content preferences of the user determined to be relevant to the plurality of content items of the first content system.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the plurality of dataspaces comprises at least one of a phone, phone book, address book, calendar, downloadable media content, television, travel, web, and book dataspaces.

21. The system of claim 19, wherein the first content system is a third-party service provider.

The system of claim 19, wherein the control circuitry configured to present the content item is further configured to present the content item of the plurality of content items of the first content system in response to receiving incremental input entered by the user for incrementally identifying desired content items of the plurality of content items of the first content system.

The system of claim 19, wherein the control circuitry configured to select and present the content item is further configured to select and present the content item based on popularity values associated with each content item of the plurality of content items, and wherein each popularity value indicates a relative measure of a likelihood that the respective content item is desired by the user.

24. The system of claim 19, wherein the plurality of content items of the first content system or the plurality of dataspaces of the mobile device are contained on at least one of a cable television system, a video-on-demand system, an IPTV system, and a personal video recorder.

25. The system of claim 19, wherein the first content system has not characterized the content preferences of the user.

26. The system of claim 19, wherein the control circuitry configured to monitor user interactions is further configured to monitor the user interactions with the plurality of dataspaces of the mobile device.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions encoded thereon for selecting and presenting a content item of a first content system in which the selection and presentation is based on content preferences of the user learned from user interactions with content items from a plurality of dataspaces of a user device, the instructions comprising:

instructions for monitoring user interactions with a plurality of content items on a mobile device, wherein the mobile device has a plurality of dataspaces, and wherein each content item of the plurality of content items has an associated descriptive term to describe the respective content item;

instructions for analyzing the associated descriptive term for each content item of the plurality of content items of the plurality of dataspaces with which a user interacted to learn content preferences of the user for the plurality of content items on the mobile device;

instructions for determining a subset of the content preferences that are relevant to the plurality of content items of a first content system; and

instructions for selecting and presenting, subsequent to determining the subset of the content preferences, a content item of the plurality of content items of the first content system based on the subset of the content preferences of the user determined to be relevant to the plurality of content items of the first content system.

28. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 27, wherein the plurality of dataspaces comprises at least one of phone, phone book, address book, calendar, downloadable media content, television, travel, web, and book dataspaces.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 27, wherein the instructions for presenting the content item further comprise instructions for presenting the content item of the plurality of content items of the first content system in response to receiving incremental input entered by the user for incrementally identifying desired content items of the plurality of content items of the first content system.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 27, wherein the instructions for selecting and presenting of the content item further comprise instructions for selecting and presenting of the content item based on popularity values associated with the each content item of the plurality of content items, and wherein each popularity value indicates a relative measure of a likelihood that the respective content item is desired by the user.
