Abstract

A data processing device with low power consumption is provided. The data processing device includes a flexible position input portion for sensing proximity or a touch of an object such as a user'"'"'s palm and finger. The flexible position input portion overlaps with a display portion and includes a first region, a second region facing the first region, and a third region between the first region and the second region. In the case where part of the first region or the second region is held by a user for a certain period, supply of image signals to the part is selectively stopped. Alternatively, a sensing in the part is selectively stopped.

Claims

1. A driving method of a data processing device comprising steps of:

sensing touch of a finger or a palm of a user on a first region of a display portion of the data processing device; and

selectively stopping supply of an image signal to the first region,

wherein the first region comprises part of a side surface or part of a top surface of the data processing device.

2. The driving method according to claim 1, further calculating an area and barycentric coordinates of the first region.

3. The driving method according to claim 1, further standing by for 1 second to 30 seconds after the sensing.

4. The driving method according to claim 1, wherein the first region comprises the part of the side surface and does not comprise the part of the top surface.

5. The driving method according to claim 1, wherein the first region is adjacent to a second region including a flat surface.

6. A driving method of a data processing device comprising steps of:

sensing proximity of a finger or a palm of a user to a first region of a display portion of the data processing device; and

selectively stopping supply of an image signal to the first region,

wherein the first region comprises part of a side surface or part of a top surface of the data processing device.

7. The driving method according to claim 6, further calculating an area and barycentric coordinates of the first region.

8. The driving method according to claim 6, further standing by for 1 second to 30 seconds after the sensing.

9. The driving method according to claim 6, wherein the first region comprises the part of the side surface and does not comprise the part of the top surface.

10. The driving method according to claim 6, wherein the first region is adjacent to a second region including a flat surface.

11. A driving method of a data processing device comprising steps of:

sensing touch of a finger or a palm of a user on a first region of a display portion of the data processing device; and

selectively stopping the sensing in the first region,

wherein the first region comprises part of a side surface or part of a top surface of the data processing device.

12. The driving method according to claim 11, further calculating an area and barycentric coordinates of the first region.

13. The driving method according to claim 11, further standing by for 1 second to 30 seconds after the sensing.

14. The driving method according to claim 11, wherein the first region comprises the part of the side surface and does not comprise the part of the top surface.

15. The driving method according to claim 11, wherein the first region is adjacent to a second region including a flat surface.

16. A driving method of a data processing device comprising steps of:

sensing proximity of a finger or a palm of a user to a first region of a display portion of the data processing device; and

selectively stopping the sensing in the first region,

wherein the first region comprises part of a side surface or part of a top surface of the data processing device.

17. The driving method according to claim 16, further calculating an area and barycentric coordinates of the first region.

18. The driving method according to claim 16, further standing by for 1 second to 30 seconds after the sensing.

19. The driving method according to claim 16, wherein the first region comprises the part of the side surface and does not comprise the part of the top surface.

20. The driving method according to claim 16, wherein the first region is adjacent to a second region including a flat surface.
