Abstract

Aspects of the disclosure relate to generating incentives. An access point model may be generated based in part on access point model data, e.g., collected scan information from devices that travel through an indoor space. The wireless access point model may include an indoor map of a location or building, such as a store or portion of a store. At some point, it may be determined that the access point model data may not meet a predetermined quality threshold. For example, the data may be outdated or inaccurate. An incentive may be generated and transmitted to a client device within a predetermined distance of the access point associated with the access point model. When the client device redeems the incentive and enters the indoor space associated with the access point, scan information may be collected. The scan information may be used to update or otherwise modify the access point model.

Claims

1. A method for collecting wireless access point data, the method comprising:

generating, by one or more processors a request to collect wireless access point data of a wireless access point;

generating an incentive, by the one or more processors, the incentive being associated with a location of the wireless access point;

transmitting, by the one or more processors, the incentive to a client device, the incentive providing an inducement to collect the wireless access point data when the client device travels within a predetermined range of the wireless access point; and

receiving, by the one or more processors, the wireless access point data from the client device.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

generating an access point model for a point of interest, the access point model comprising the wireless access point data of the wireless access point.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

modifying the wireless access point model based on the collected wireless access point data.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the wireless access point model includes an indoor map.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

verifying that a client device has traveled within the predetermined range of the wireless access point.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the verification comprises detecting the location of the client device.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the verification comprises detecting a redemption of the incentive.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the incentive is selected from a group consisting of:

a coupon, an advertisement, and a social media incentive.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the incentive is associated with a product associated with the physical location of the wireless access point.

10. The method of claim 2, further comprising determining that a quality of the wireless access point model fails to meet a predetermined threshold quality.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the request to collect additional wireless access point data is generated when the quality of the wireless access point model fails to meet the predetermined quality threshold.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein the predetermined quality threshold is an amount of time since data was last collected at a wireless access point.

13. The method of claim 10, wherein the predetermined quality threshold is an aggregate amount of data associated with the wireless access point model.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

transmitting to the client device directions from the location of the client device to a location within the range of the wireless access point.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the incentive is transmitted to the client device only when the client device is within a predetermined distance of the wireless access point.

16. A method of receiving an incentive at a client device, comprising:

transmitting, by one or more processors a location of a client device to a server;

receiving, by the one or more processors, an incentive at the client device when the client device is within a predetermined distance of a wireless access point, the incentive being associated with a physical location of the wireless access point, the incentive providing an inducement to collect wireless access point data when the client device travels within a predetermined range of the wireless access point;

redeeming, by the one or more processors, the incentive; and

transmitting, by the one or more processors, wireless scan data to the server in response to receiving the incentive.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the incentive is selected from a group consisting of:

a coupon, an advertisement, and a social media incentive.

18. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

displaying, on a display of the client device, directions from a current location of the client device to a location within the predetermined range of the wireless access point.

19. A device for generating an incentive, the device comprising:

memory storing instructions;

one or more processors coupled to the memory, the one or more processors configured to execute the instructions to;

generate a request to collect wireless access point data from a wireless access point;

generate an incentive, the incentive being associated with a location of the wireless access point;

transmit the incentive to a client device, the incentive providing an inducement to collect the wireless access point data when the client device travels within a predetermined range of the wireless access point; and

receive the wireless access point data from the client device.

20. The device of claim 19, the one or more processors further configured to execute the instructions to:

generate an access point model for a point of interest, the access point model comprising access point data collected from the wireless access point.
