Abstract

An adjustable pedal that includes a first body with a shoe, a second body pivotable about a shaft, the first body being movably coupled with respect to the second body, a third body being pivotable with respect to the second body and movably coupled with respect to the first body, the third body being coupled to an actuator through a coupling, and a control device suitable for adjusting the position of the pedal. The first body and the second body are telescopically coupled to one another, the control device controlling the distance between the rotating shaft and the coupling by moving the three bodies relatively to one another, keeping the ratio of the distance between the shaft and the shoe and the distance between the shaft and the coupling substantially constant.

Claims

1. An adjustable pedal for motor vehicles comprising:

a first body including a lower end section having a shoe disposed at a lower end thereof, the first body further including a substantially straight upper end section coextensive to the lower end section,

a second body coupled to a rotating shaft, the second body having a substantially straight first section, the first and second bodies being telescopically coupled to one another through the use of at least one pin and at least one slot arranged separately within the substantially straight first section of the second body and the substantially straight upper end section of the first body, the pin and slot configured to guide the movement of the first and second bodies with respect to one another, the slot being substantially straight and extending longitudinally to at least one of the first and second bodies,

a third body pivotably arranged with respect to the second body and movably coupled with respect to the first body, the third body being coupled to an actuator through a coupling, each of the first and second bodies residing at least partially within the third body, and

a control device suitable for adjusting the position of the pedal, the control device comprising a screw and nut assembly, the screw being supported at a first end by a support element that is pivotably coupled to the second body, the nut being pivotably coupled to the substantially straight upper end section of the first body,

wherein upon there being a rotation of the screw the first, second and third bodies are configured to be moved relative to one another to keep the ratio of the distance between the rotating shaft and the shoe and the distance between the rotating shaft and the coupling substantially constant.

2. An adjustable pedal according to claim 1, wherein the screw and nut of the control device are collectively protected inside the first, second and third bodies.

3. An adjustable pedal according to claim 1, wherein the first body is partially housed inside the second body.

4. An adjustable pedal according to claim 1, wherein the first body comprises the at least one slot, the first body being coupled to the second body through the at least one pin fixed to the second body and traversing the at least one slot.

5. An adjustable pedal according to claim 4, wherein the slot extends longitudinally to the first body.

6. An adjustable pedal according to claim 4, wherein the first body comprises at least two slots extending substantially parallel to one another, the first body being coupled to the second body by at least two pins fixed to the second body and respectively traversing the at least two slots.

An adjustable pedal according to claim 1, wherein the third body comprises at least one slot, the third body being coupled to the first body through a pin traversing the slot, allowing the rotation of the third body with respect to the second body when the first body is moved with respect to the second body by means of the control device.

An adjustable pedal according to claim 1, wherein the first body comprises an extension which is housed inside the third body, and the third body comprises at least one slot, a pin being housed in the slot traversing the slot and a hole in the extension permitting the rotation of the third body with respect to the second body when the first body is moved with respect to the second body by means of the control device.

9. An adjustable pedal according to claim 8, wherein the slot of the third body is a curvilinear slot.

10. An adjustable pedal according to claim 1, wherein each of the first and second bodies comprises a substantially rectangular-shaped cross-section.

11. An adjustable pedal according to claim 10, wherein the third body comprises a substantially U-shaped cross-section, the first body and the second body being housed at least partially inside the U-shaped cross-section.

12. An adjustable pedal according to claim 1, wherein the screw is longitudinally aligned with the substantially straight upper end section of the first body and the substantially straight first section of the second body.

13. An adjustable pedal according to claim 1, wherein the nut of the control device is arranged on two supports in the first body.

14. An adjustable pedal according to claim 13, wherein the nut comprises two projections each of which extends from a side surface of the nut, the projections being substantially aligned with one another and housed in a corresponding housing arranged in the first body.

An adjustable pedal according to claim 1, further comprising a cam pivotably coupled to the rotating shaft and movably coupled to the third body, the cam comprising a contact surface keeping an absolute position constant with respect to the rotating shaft upon there being a rotation of the screw.

16. An adjustable pedal according to claim 15, wherein the cam is externally coupled to the third body, the third body comprising a slot along which a projection of the cam moves for maintaining the absolute position of the contact surface.

An adjustable pedal according to claim 1, wherein the third body comprises a substantially U-shaped cross-section having parallel facing first and second walls, the first body comprises an extension which is housed inside the third body, the third body comprising a first slot in the first wall and a second slot in the second wall, the first and second slots arranged aligned with one another, a pin traverses the first and second slots and a hole in the extension permitting the rotation of the third body with respect to the second body when the first body is moved with respect to the second body by means of the control device.

18. An adjustable pedal according to claim 17, wherein each of the first and second slots of the third body is a curvilinear slot.

19. An adjustable pedal according to claim 17, wherein the screw and nut of the control device are collectively protected inside the first, second and third bodies.

20. An adjustable pedal according to claim 17, wherein each of the first and second bodies comprises a substantially rectangular-shaped cross-section, the first body and the second body being housed at least partially inside the U-shaped cross-section.
