Abstract

A method for device pairing including displaying at least one image having a first characteristic using a first application by a first electronic device. It is determined if the image is recognizable. If the image is determined to be recognizable, pairing the first electronic device with a second electronic device.

Claims

1. A method for device pairing, comprising:

displaying at least one image having a first characteristic using a first application by a first electronic device;

determining if the image is recognizable; and

pairing the first electronic device with a second electronic device if the image is determined to be recognizable.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

if the image is determined to not be recognizable or distinguishable from images with a first characteristic for any other electronic devices that are present within a particular area;

receiving a request to change the first characteristic by the first electronic device and any other electronic devices that are present within the particular area;

changing the first characteristic to one or more second characteristics by the first electronic device and any other electronic devices that are present within the particular area;

recognizing the change to the one or more second characteristics for the first electronic device by the second electronic device; and

pairing the first electronic device with the second electronic device, wherein the one or more second characteristics are different for the first electronic device and any other electronic devices that are present within the particular area.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the first characteristic and the second characteristic comprises one of a graphic object having one or more of:

a static color, a static shape, a static pattern and a dynamic pattern.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the first characteristic or the one or more second characteristics of the first electronic device and the one or more other electronic devices are assigned for future connections to the second electronic device.

The method of claim 4, wherein the second electronic device identifies each electronic device based on the different one or more second characteristics, wherein the second electronic device requests the first electronic device and the one or more other electronic devices to change to a specific second characteristic that is different for each electronic device.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising:

performing facial recognition by the second electronic device for recognizing users of the first electronic device and the one or more other electronic devices; and

assigning the recognized users distinct identifications.

7. The method of claim 5, further comprising:

placing the first electronic device in front of a user face;

recognizing the user face in front of the first electronic device; and

associating the user face with the first electronic device.

8. The method of claim 5, further comprising:

placing the first electronic device in front of a user face;

recognizing the user face of the first electronic device;

determining a distance from the first electronic device to the second electronic device based on a size of the at least one image and a focal length of an imaging device of the second electronic device; and

if the first electronic device comprises a personal electronic device, associating the first electronic device with the second electronic device, if the first electronic device comprises a communal electronic device, then associating the user face with the first electronic device by the second electronic device.

9. The method of claim 5, further comprising:

placing the first electronic device in front of a first user face and a third electronic device in front of a second user face;

recognizing the first user face and the second user face by the second electronic device;

associating the first user face with the first electronic device and the second user face with the third electronic device;

determining relative positions of the first electronic device with respect to the third electronic device by the second electronic device; and

following movement of each of the first electronic device and the third electronic device by the second electronic device.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the first device comprises a mobile electronic device, and the second electronic device comprises a television device connected with an imaging device.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the first electronic device, the one or more other electronic devices and the second electronic device are each connected to a network.

12. A system for pairing devices, comprising:

a first electronic device that displays at least one image having a first characteristic using a first application; and

a second electronic device that determines if the image is recognizable and pairs with the first electronic device if the image is determined to be recognizable.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein if the first image is unrecognizable or not distinguishable from images with a first characteristic for any other electronic devices that are present within a particular area:

the second electronic device sends a request to change the first characteristic to the first electronic device and any other electronic devices that are present within the particular area,

the first electronic device and any other electronic devices present in the particular area change the first characteristic to one or more second characteristics, the second electronic device recognizes the change to the second characteristic for the first electronic device, and the first electronic device pairs with the second electronic device.

The system of claim 13, wherein first electronic device and any other electronic devices that are present within a particular area receive the request to change the first characteristic for a displayed image to the second characteristic, wherein the second characteristic for any other electronic devices that are present in the particular area is different for each electronic device and from the second characteristic of the first electronic device.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the first characteristic and the second characteristic comprises one of a graphic object having one or more of:

a static color, a static shape, a static pattern, and a dynamic pattern.

The system of claim 15, wherein the second characteristic of the first electronic device and the second characteristic of any other electronic devices that are present within the particular area are assigned for future connections to the second electronic device, wherein the second electronic device identifies each electronic device based on the different second characteristics, wherein the second electronic device requests the first electronic device and the other electronic devices that are present within the particular area to change to a specific second characteristic that is different for each electronic device.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the second electronic device performs facial recognition using an imaging device for recognizing users of the electronic devices, and assigns the recognized users distinct identifications.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein the second electronic device recognizes a user face in front of the first electronic device using an imaging device and associates the user face with the first electronic device.

19. The system of claim 16, wherein the second electronic device recognizes a user face in front of the first electronic device using an imaging device, determines a distance from the first electronic device to the second electronic device based on a size of the at least one image and a focal length of the imaging device, wherein if the first electronic device comprises a personal electronic device, the second electronic device associates the first electronic device with the second electronic device, and wherein if the first electronic device comprises a communal electronic device, then the second electronic device associates the user face with the first electronic device.

The system of claim 16, wherein the second electronic device recognizes a first user face in front of the first electronic device and a second user face in front of a third electronic device, associates the first user face with the first electronic device and the second user face with the third electronic device, determines relative positions of the first electronic device with respect to the third electronic device, and follows movement of each of the first electronic device and the third electronic device.

21. The system of claim 12, wherein the first device comprises a mobile electronic device, and the second electronic device comprises a television device connected with an imaging device.

22. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions which when executed on a computer perform a method comprising:

displaying at least one image having a first characteristic using a first application by a first electronic device;

determining if the image is recognizable; and

pairing the first electronic device with a second electronic device if the image is determined to be recognizable.

23. The medium of claim 22, further comprising:

if the image is determined to not be recognizable or distinguishable from images with a first characteristic for any other electronic devices that are present within a particular area;

receiving a request to change the first characteristic by the first electronic device and any other electronic devices that are present within the particular area;

changing the first characteristic to one or more second characteristics by the first electronic device and any other electronic devices that are present within the particular area;

recognizing the change to the one or more second characteristic for the first electronic device by the second electronic device; and

pairing the first electronic device with the second electronic device,

wherein the second characteristic is different for each of the other electronic devices that are present within the particular area,

wherein the first characteristic and the second characteristic each comprise one of a graphic object having one or more of;

a static color, a static shape, a static pattern, and a dynamic pattern.

24. The medium of claim 23, wherein the first characteristic or the one or more second characteristic of the first electronic device and the other electronic devices that are present within the particular area are assigned for future connections to the second electronic device.

25. The medium of claim 24, wherein the second electronic device identifies each electronic device based on the different second characteristics, wherein the second electronic device requests the first electronic device and the other electronic devices that are present in the particular area to change to a specific second characteristic that is different for each electronic device.

26. The medium of claim 25, further comprising:

placing the first electronic device in front of a user face;

recognizing the user face in front of the first electronic device by the second electronic device; and

associating the user face with the first electronic device.

27. The medium of claim 25, further comprising:

placing the first electronic device in front of a user face;

recognizing the user face of the first electronic device by the second electronic device;

determining a distance from the first electronic device to the second electronic device based on a size of the at least one image and a focal length of an imaging device of the second electronic device; and

if the first electronic device comprises a personal electronic device, associating the first electronic device with the second electronic device, if the first electronic device comprises a communal electronic device, then associating the user face with the first electronic device by the second electronic device.

28. The medium of claim 25, further comprising:

placing the first electronic device in front of a first user face and a third electronic device in front of a second user face;

recognizing the first user face and the second user face by the second electronic device;

associating the first user face with the first electronic device and the second user face with the third electronic device;

determining relative positions of the first electronic device with respect to the third electronic device by the second electronic device; and

following movement of each of the first electronic device and the third electronic device by the second electronic device.

29. The medium of claim 22, wherein the first device comprises a mobile electronic device, and the second electronic device comprises a television device connected with an imaging device.

30. The medium of claim 22, wherein the first electronic device, the other electronic devices that are present within the particular area and the second electronic device are each connected to a network.
