Abstract

A previously obtained location of a fixed wireless device is stored and available for processing of a call or the like from the device when a location determination may be desirable. In some circumstances, the previously obtained location of the fixed wireless device may be retrieved to provide information to a public-safety answering point (PSAP) during handling of an emergency call initiated by the fixed wireless device over a wireless network.

Claims

1. A system, comprising:

a 911 Service Provider device having a processor and configured to store a previously obtained identification of a fixed location of a fixed wireless device;

a mobile switching center (MSC) configured to receive, from the fixed wireless device, an emergency communication over a wireless network;

a dynamic automatic location identification (DALI) device configured to request resolution of a position of the fixed wireless device when the fixed wireless device initiates the emergency communication;

a mobile positioning center (MPC) device configured to;

receive, from the 911 Service Provider device, the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device; and

send, to the DALI device, the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device, responsive to the position resolution request; and

a public-safety answering point (PSAP) configured to receive, from the DALI device, the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device during handling of the emergency communication of the fixed wireless device.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the identification of the fixed location comprises a street address of the fixed wireless device.

3. The system of claim 1, further comprising a location processing device configured to:

obtain the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device during initial activation of the fixed wireless device; and

transmit, to the 911 Service Provider device, the obtained identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the location processing device is further configured to:

associate the identification of the fixed location with the fixed wireless device using a mobile telephone number of the fixed wireless device; and

transmit, to the DALI device, (1) the identification of the location of the fixed wireless device, (2) the mobile telephone number of the fixed wireless device, and (3) an association of the identification of the location of the fixed wireless device with the respective mobile telephone number.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the PSAP is further configured to transmit, to one or more service departments identified as appropriate for handling an emergency relating to the emergency communication, the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device.

6. The system of claim 1, further comprising a location validation device configured to:

receive, from the 911 Service Provider device, the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device;

receive, from the MPC device, other position information of the fixed wireless device; and

validate an accuracy of the received identification of the fixed location by comparing the identification of the fixed location of the fixed device with the other position information of the fixed wireless device.

7. A method, comprising:

storing, at a 911 Service Provider device having a processor, a previously obtained identification of a fixed location of a fixed wireless device;

receiving, at a mobile switching center (MSC) from the fixed wireless device, an emergency communication over a wireless network;

requesting, at a dynamic automatic location identification (DALI) device, resolution of a position of the fixed wireless device when the fixed wireless device initiates the emergency communication over the wireless network;

receiving, at a mobile positioning center (MPC) device from the 911 Service Provider device, the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device;

sending, from the MPC device to the DALI device, the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device, responsive to the position resolution request; and

receiving, at a public-safety answering point (PSAP) from the DALI device, the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device during handling of the emergency communication initiated by the fixed wireless device.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the identification of the fixed location comprises a street address of the fixed wireless device.

9. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

obtaining, at a location processing device, the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device during initial activation of the fixed wireless device; and

transmitting, from the location processing device to the 911 Service Provider device, the obtained identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

associating the identification of the fixed location with the fixed wireless device using a mobile telephone number of the fixed wireless device; and

transmitting, to the DALI device, (1) the identification of the location of the fixed wireless device, (2) the mobile telephone number of the fixed wireless device, and (3) an association of the identification of the location of the fixed wireless device with the respective mobile telephone number.

11. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

transmitting, from the PSAP to one or more service departments identified as appropriate for handling an emergency relating to the emergency communication, the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device.

12. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

receiving, from the 911 Service Provider device, the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device;

receiving, from the MPC, other position information of the fixed wireless device; and

validating an accuracy of the received identification of the fixed location by comparing the identification of the fixed location of the fixed device with the other position information of the fixed wireless device.

13. A dynamic automatic location identification (DALI) device, comprising:

a communication interface; and

a processor coupled to the interface and configured to cause the device to;

request resolution of a position of a fixed wireless device when the fixed wireless device initiates an emergency communication;

receive, from a mobile positioning center (MPC), an identification of a previously obtained fixed location of the fixed wireless device, responsive to the position resolution request; and

send, to a public-safety answering point (PSAP), the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device during handling of the emergency communication of the fixed wireless device.

14. The DALI device of claim 13, wherein the identification of the fixed location is a street address of the fixed wireless device.

15. The DALI device of claim 13, wherein the processor is further configured to cause the device to obtain, from a location processing device, the fixed location of the fixed wireless device during initial activation of the fixed wireless device.

The DALI device of claim 15, wherein the processor is further configured to cause the device to receive (1) the identification of the location of the fixed wireless device, (2) a mobile telephone number of the fixed wireless device, and (3) an association of the identification of the fixed wireless device with the respective mobile telephone number.

17. The DALI device of claim 13, wherein the processor is further configured to cause the device to:

receive, from a location validation device, an indication of whether an accuracy of the retrieved fixed location has been validated by comparing the identification of the fixed location of the fixed wireless device with other position information associated with the fixed wireless device.
