Abstract

A method for enhancing the production of aquatic organisms under cultivation, including the steps of exposing the aquatic organisms to a submerged illumination source inside water of a rearing unit; and maintaining illumination in the rearing unit for a rearing period.

Claims

1. :

A method for enhancing the production of aquatic organisms under cultivation, including the steps of;

exposing the aquatic organisms to a submerged illumination source inside water of a rearing unit; and

maintaining illumination in the rearing unit for a rearing period.

2. :

The method according to claim 1, wherein no illumination source generates light that is introduced into the water of the rearing unit by an air-water surface interface.

3. :

The method according to claim 1, wherein the aquatic low-salinity or fresh-water organisms comprise invertebrate animalae, plantae, fungi, bacteria, archaea, and protista.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the aquatic 1 organism comprises crawfish.

5. :

The method according to claim 1, wherein the submerged illumination sources comprise at least one of incandescent bulbs, halogen lighting, phosphorescence, fluorescence, xenon, chemiluminescence, light emitting diodes, and liquid crystal devices.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the one or more illuminating sources are located between the bottom of the body of water and 1 mm beneath the surface of the body of water.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the one or more illuminating sources are located 10 cm above the bottom of the body of water and 1 cm below the surface of the body of water.

The method according to claim 7, wherein two or more individual submerged illumination sources are arranged in an array, wherein the individual illumination sources are separated from each other by a distance of between 1 and 10 m.

The method according to claim 1, wherein no illumination source generates light that is reflected by the upper surface of the water.

9. :

A method for affecting the growth of aquatic organisms comprising the steps of;

exposing the aquatic organisms under cultivation to a plurality of submerged illumination sources within an aquatic rearing unit; and

maintaining illumination in the rearing unit for at least a part of a rearing period.

The method according to claim 9, wherein the aquatic organisms comprise invertebrate animals, plants, fungi, bacteria, archaea, and protista.

The method according to claim 9, wherein the aquatic organism comprises crawfish.

13. :

The method according to claim 9, wherein the one or more illuminating sources are located between the bottom of the body of water and 2 cm beneath the surface of the body of water.

14. :

A system for enhancing the production of aquatic organisms under cultivation, the system comprising;

a rearing unit configured to enclose water and the aquatic organisms;

a plurality of illumination sources configured to be arranged below an upper surface of the water in the rearing unit;

a control device configured to operate the plurality of illumination sources to maintain illumination inside the rearing unit under the upper surface of the water for a rearing period.

The system according to claim 14, further comprising;

a power supply device connected to the plurality of illumination sources,

wherein the control device is further configured to control the power supply device to operate the plurality of illumination sources.

The system according to claim 14, wherein the plurality of illumination sources are arranged such that no light is reflected by the upper surface of the water.
