Abstract

In one embodiment, the present invention relates to a method for reducing the frequency and/or severity of headache in a subject comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising the stromal vascular fraction or stromal cells of adipose tissue. In another embodiment, the present invention relates to a method for reducing the frequency and/or severity of headache in a subject comprising administering to the subject a composition compositing bone marrow. In another embodiment, the present invention relates to a method for reducing the frequency or severity of headache in a subject comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising adult stem cells.

Claims

1. A method of reducing the frequency and/or severity of headache in a subject comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising:

the stromal vascular fraction or stromal cells of adipose tissue;

or

a bone marrow-derived cellular preparation.

2. The method according to claim 1 wherein the stromal vascular fraction or stromal cells of adipose tissue or the bone marrow-derived cellular preparation comprise adult stem cells.

3. The method according to claim 2 wherein the adult stem cells are mesenchymal stem cells and/or early mesenchymal/stromal precursor cells, and/or adipose tissue-derived stromal/stem cells.

7. The method according to claim 2 or claim 4 where the adult stem cells have been expanded and/or cultured.

8. The method according to claim 1 or claim 4 wherein the headache is selected from the group consisting of migraine, tension headache, trigeminal neuralgia, cluster headache and headache.

9. The method according to claim 1 wherein the adipose tissue or bone marrow is autologous.

10. The method according to claim 1 wherein the adipose tissue or bone marrow is allogeneic.

13. The method according to claim 1 wherein the adipose tissue is treated with an enzyme and/or dissociating reagent.

14. The method according to claim 13 wherein the enzyme is collagenase and the dissociating reagent is lecithin.

15. The method according to claim 1 wherein the adipose tissue is subjected to ultrasonic cavitation.

16. The method according to claim 15 wherein the ultrasonic cavitation lyses adipocytes.

17. The method according to claim 1 wherein the adipose tissue is subjected to mechanical agitation.

18. The method according to claim 1 wherein the stromal vascular fraction or stromal cells of adipose tissue or the bone marrow-derived cellular preparation is treated with platelet-rich plasma or plasma rich in growth factors.

20. The method according to claim 1 wherein the stromal vascular fraction or stromal cells of adipose tissue or the bone marrow-derived cellular preparation is administered to the subject intravenously.

4. A method of reducing the frequency and/or severity of headache in a subject comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising adult stem cells.

5. The method according to claim 4 wherein the adult stem cells are mesenchymal stem cells and/or early mesenchymal/stromal precursor cells and/or adipose tissue-derived stromal/stem cells.

6. The method according to claim 5 wherein the mesenchymal stem cells and/or early mesenchymal/stromal precursor cells are obtained from adipose tissue, bone marrow or blood.

11. The method according to claim 4 wherein the adult stem cells are autologous.

12. The method according to claim 4 wherein the adult stem cells are allogeneic

19. The method according to claim 4 wherein the adult stem cells are treated with platelet-rich plasma or plasma rich in growth factors.

21. The method according to claim 4 wherein the adult stem cells are administered intravenously.

22. A method of reducing the frequency and/or severity of headache in a subject comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising stem cells obtained from umbilical cord (Wharton'"'"'s jelly), umbilical cord blood or placenta.

23. A method of reducing the frequency and/or severity of headache in a subject comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising adipose tissue-derived and/or stromal-derived extra-cellular matrix.
