Abstract

A method and system for exposing an expectant mother to a mixture of farm derived manure-containing soil to reduce the chances her baby will suffer allergies. City dwelling expectant mothers are exposed to immunologic agents and allergens in a fashion (e.g., via exposure to farm animal manure-containing soils) that charges their immune system and that of their fetus(es) so that their babies, once born, are provided with immunity against a variety of autoimmune diseases, including allergies commonly and increasingly experienced in modern urban environments.

Claims

1. A method for preventing the development of an autoimmune disease in a newborn, comprising prenatally administering to an expectant mother a composition including:

an effective amount of a bacterial formulation that comprises;

Prevotella;

Lactobacillus johnsonii;

Bacteroides fragilis, Lactobacillus ruminus, and at least one of B. longum bv. Infantis isolate UCD272 or B. longum bv. Infantis, AY151398; and

an effective amount of an extract derived from a helminth selected from the group consisting of;

Capillaria hepatica, Dicrocoelium dendriticum, Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermicularis, Trichuris trichiura, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus, Strongyloides stercoralis, Haemonchus contortus, and Trichinella spiralis, said step of administering comprising exposing the expectant mother to said composition at a time period from about one month after conception to three months after birth.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising providing a container having a chamber that retains a layer of farm animal manure-containing soil, said soil including microorganisms;

and operating an air flow device adapted to convey air about said manure-containing soil into a room.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of administering comprises:

a. providing a device inside a residential environment that is adapted for containing manure-containing soil;

b. providing a first manure-containing soil;

c. replacing said first manure-containing soil with a second manure-containing soil, said second manure containing soil being collected later than said first manure-containing soil;

d. exposing the expectant mother to said first and second manure-containing soils at spaced apart periods of time, with at least one exposure being every month during and after the pregnancy of a woman for a total period of between about 3 months and 24 months, with each exposure lasting for at least about 10 minutes time intervals and at least every three days;

e. whereby the expectant mother, while present in said residential environment, is exposed to microbes contained in said manure-containing soils in a manner sufficient so that she develops an immunity to allergens contained in said soils;

f. exposing an expectant mother'"'"'s baby, after it is born, to one of said soils, said exposure to said soils by the baby lasting at least about 10 minutes and occurring at least once every two weeks after birth, for a total period that extends at least about 3 months after birth; and

g. whereby the baby'"'"'s immune system develops due to the exposure of said soils in a manner that reduces the baby'"'"'s chances of developing allergic disease.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the postnatal exposure to the farm soil continues for at least 6 months.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein soil having bovine manure components therein includes at least one bacteroidetes, selected from a phylum of bacteria of the group Bacteroides, Flavobacteria, and Sphingobacteria, and at least one firmicutes selected from the phylum of bacteria having a Gram-positive cell wall structure.

The method according to claim 1, further comprising providing at least 1000 bacteria added to said composition, said bacteria selected from the group of Bifidobacterium longum biovar infantis, and Lactobacillus johnsonii, and at least 1 gram of a helminthes extract derived from a helminth selected from the group consisting of:

Capillaria hepatica, Dicrocoelium dendriticum, Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermicularis, Trichuris trichiura, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus, Strongyloides stercoralis, Haemonchus contortus, Trichinella spiralis and Trichuris suis ova.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein said step of administering further includes applying to a woman'"'"'s birth canal prior to the birth of her baby a composition including an effective amount of a bacterial formulation that comprises:

Prevotella;

Lactobacillus johnsonii;

Bacteroides fragilis, Lactobacillus ruminus, and at least one of B. longum bv. Infantis isolate UCD272 or B. longum bv. Infantis, AY151398; and

an effective amount of an extract derived from a helminth selected from the group consisting of;

Capillaria hepatica, Dicrocoelium dendriticum, Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermicularis, Trichuris trichiura, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus, Strongyloides stercoralis, Haemonchus contortus, and Trichinella spiralis.

8. A method for reducing the occurrence of an autoimmune disease, comprising administering to an expectant mother multiple administrations of an effective amount of a composition containing soil and manure obtained from a farm where bovine animals are raised without the use of antibiotics, wherein the composition is administered to the expectant mother from about 3 days to about 4 weeks in between separate administrations, wherein at least 5 separate administrations are provided, and wherein the administration results in the baby born from the pregnancy of the expectant mother is free from all of the following diseases:

type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and peanut allergy.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising augmenting the soil with one or more extracts derived from a helminth selected from the consisting of:

Capillaria hepatica, Dicrocoelium dendriticum, Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermicularis, Trichuris trichiura, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus, Strongyloides stercoralis, Haemonchus contortus, and Trichinella spiralis; and

at least one of Bacteroides fragilis, B. longum bv. Infantis isolate UCD272;

B. infantis BCRC;

B. longum bv. Infantis, AY151398;

Lactobacillus ruminus.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein the composition contains soil and manure obtained from a farm where bovine animals are raised without the use of the antibiotic tylosin.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the composition has been enhanced by the addition of at least one of the following:

L. infantitis, L. johnsonii, and helminthes.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the composition comprises an extract derived from at least two of:

Capillaria hepatica, Dicrocoelium dendriticum, Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermicularis, Trichuris trichiura, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus;

Strongyloides stercoralis, Haemonchus contortus, and Trichinella spiralis.

13. The method of claim 8, wherein the composition includes at least one gram of a bacterial formulation containing at least 1000 organisms selected form the group consisting of:

Bifidobacterium lognum, B. infantis BCRC 14602;

Prevotella;

Ruminococcus, Bifidobacterium infantis, Lactobacillus acidophilus.

14. A method of reducing a likelihood of an allergic disease developing in a baby yet to be born, comprising:

administering an immune stimulating composition by dispersing, in the air of an urban dwelling where a pregnant human female resides, a prophylactic immune stimulating composition comprising;

at least 5 grams of farm soil having bovine manure components therein, wherein said bovine manure is from a bovine that has not been administered an antibiotic effective against one of Lactobacillus johnsonii, and B. longum bv. Infantis;

arabinogalactan; and

wherein said immune stimulating composition further includes an extract derived from a helminth selected from the consisting of;

Capillaria hepatica, Dicrocoelium dendriticum, Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermicularis, Trichuris trichiura, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus, Strongyloides stercoralis, Haemonchus contortus, and Trichinella spiralis,

wherein said step of administering includes exposing an expectant mother to said immune stimulating composition prior to the expectant mother'"'"'s 9^th month of pregnancy, wherein said step of exposing comprises inhaling of immune stimulating composition laden air by said expectant mother, said immune stimulating composition laden air generated by flowing air over an exposed portion of said immune stimulating composition inside an enclosed urban dwelling, said expectant mother inhaling said air at least three times a week for at least a 5 minute time period, up until the birth of her baby.

15. The method according to claim 14, further comprising providing a container having a chamber that retains a layer of farm animal manure-containing soil, said soil including microorganisms;

and operating an air flow device adapted to convey air about said manure-containing soil into a room.

16. The method according to claim 14, wherein the step of administering comprises:

a. providing a device inside a residential environment that is adapted for containing manure-containing soil;

b. providing a first manure-containing soil;

c. replacing said first manure-containing soil with a second manure-containing soil, said second manure containing soil being collected later than said first manure-containing soil;

d. exposing the expectant mother to said first and second manure-containing soils at spaced apart periods of time, with at least one exposure being every month during and after the pregnancy of a woman for a total period of between about 3 months and 24 months, with each exposure lasting for at least about 10 minutes time intervals and at least every three days;

g. whereby the baby'"'"'s immune system develops due to the exposure of said soils in a manner that reduces the baby'"'"'s chances of developing allergic disease.

17. The method according to claim 14, wherein the postnatal exposure to the farm soil continues for at least 6 months.

18. The method according to claim 14, wherein soil having bovine manure components therein includes at least one bacteroidetes selected from a phylum of bacteria of the group Bacteroides, Flavobacteria, and Sphingobacteria, and at least one firmicutes selected from the phylum of bacteria having a Gram-positive cell wall structure.

19. The method according to claim 14, further comprising providing at least 1000 bacteria added to said composition, said bacteria selected from the group of Bifidobacterium longum biovar infantis, and Lactobacillus johnsonii, and at least 1 gram of a helminthes extract derived from a helminth selected from the group consisting of:

Capillaria hepatica, Dicrocoelium dendriticum, Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermicularis, Trichuris trichiura, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus, Strongyloides stercoralis, Haemonchus contortus, Trichinella spiralis and Trichuris suis ova.

20. The method according to claim 14, wherein said step of administering includes nasally administering to a newborn within the first few hours of birth an antibody of IgE.
