Abstract

Disclosed herein is a method of cementing a surface with a set-delayed cement composition. The method comprises providing a set-delayed cement composition comprising water, pumice, hydrated lime, and a set retarder. The method further comprises placing the set-delayed cement composition into or onto a surface to be cemented and allowing the set-delayed cement composition to set in the surface.

Claims

1. A method of cementing a surface with a set-delayed cement composition:

providing a set-delayed cement composition comprising water, pumice, hydrated lime, and a set retarder;

placing the set-delayed cement composition onto or into a surface to be cemented; and

allowing the set-delayed cement composition to set.

The method of claim 1 wherein the set retarder comprises at least one retarder selected from the group consisting of a phosphate, a phosphonate, a phosphonic acid, a phosphonic acid derivative, a lignosulfonate, a salt, an organic acid, a carboxymethylated hydroxyethylated cellulose, a synthetic co- or ter-polymer comprising sulfonate and carboxylic acid groups, a borate compound, and any mixture thereof.

The method of claim 1 wherein the set-delayed cement composition further comprises a cement set activator selected from the group consisting of a zeolite, amine, silicate, Group IA hydroxide, Group HA hydroxide, monovalent salt, divalent salt, nanosilica, polyphosphate, and any combination thereof.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the set-delayed cement composition comprising the cement set activator further comprises a thickening time in a range between about 30 seconds to about 10 hours.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the set-delayed cement composition further comprises a fiber.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the set-delayed cement composition further comprises a dispersant selected from the group consisting of a sulfonated-formaldehyde-based dispersant, a polycarboxylated ether dispersant, and any combination thereof.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising, prior to the placing step, storing the set-delayed cement composition in a vessel in a size of about 1 pint to about 20,000 gallons.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the surface to be cemented is selected from the group consisting of an above-ground surface, the surface of the earth, a top-most surface formation of the earth, and any combinations thereof.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the surface to be cemented is selected from the group consisting of a patio, a sidewalk, a drive way, a wall, a floor, a basement, a foundation, a roadway, and any combination thereof.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein set-delayed cement composition further comprises soil.

The method of claim 1, wherein the surface to be cemented further comprises a waste selected from the group consisting of an aqueous waste, a metal solid, an organic liquid, a spent acid, a petroleum solid, an inorganic liquid, a spent caustic, an adhesive, an epoxy, an organic paint, an ink, a lacquer, a waste oil, an incinerator residue, ethylene glycol, a brine solution, a wet sludge, a leachate contaminated waste, a plating sludge, a catalyst waste, a sandblasting waste, a drilling mud, a resin, a tar sludge, a contaminated soil, and any combination thereof.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the set-delayed cement composition is pumped from a storage unit and wherein the surface to be cemented is about 100 feet or more away from the storage unit.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the surface to be cemented is a surface of a water well.

14. A method of producing a set-delayed cement composite material:

providing a set-delayed cement composition comprising water, pumice, hydrated lime, and a set retarder;

adding the set-delayed cement composition to a non-cementitious material; and

allowing the set-delayed cement composition added to the non-cementitious material to set and form a set-delayed cement composite.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the non-cementitious material comprises soil.

16. The method of claim 14 wherein the non-cementitious material comprises a waste selected from the group consisting of aqueous waste, a metal solid, an organic liquid, a spent acid, a petroleum solid, an inorganic liquid, a spent caustic, an adhesive, an epoxy, an organic paint, an ink, a lacquer, a waste oil, an incinerator residue, ethylene glycol, a brine solution, a wet sludge, a leachate contaminated waste, a plating sludge, a catalyst waste, a sandblasting waste, a drilling mud, a resin, a tar sludge, a contaminated soil, and any combination thereof.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the adding the set-delayed cement composition to a non-cementitious material comprises spraying the set-delayed cement composition on to the non-cementitious material.

18. A cementing system comprising:

a cement composition comprising;

water,

pumice,

hydrated lime, and

a set retarder;

a cementing unit comprising;

a vessel,

a pump,

and a conduit.

19. The cementing system of claim 18 wherein the cementing unit is capable of pumping the cement composition about 100 feet or more away from the vessel.

20. The cementing system of claim 18, wherein the conduit further comprises a nozzle and wherein the nozzle further comprises an applicator which is capable of adding a cement set activator to the cement composition.
