Abstract

A method for modeling, designing, and/or optimizing a wireless power transfer system, such as a resonant power transfer system. The method may be based on artificial intelligence or expert systems. A computer program product for optimizing a power transfer system is also disclosed.

Claims

1. A method for optimizing a power transfer system, comprising:

generating an initial population of circuits;

evaluating the initial population of circuits;

selecting a set of circuits based on the evaluating; and

generating a new population of circuits based on the selected set of circuits.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the generating of the initial population comprises choosing circuits based on an analysis of resonant frequencies.

3. The method according to claim 2, wherein the generating of the initial population comprises generating a larger population of circuits by varying component values of the circuits.

4. The method according to claim 2, wherein the generating of the initial population comprises generating a larger population of circuits by randomly varying component values of the circuits.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the evaluating comprises scoring each circuit in the population.

6. The method according to claim 5, wherein the scoring is based on a plurality of system operating parameters.

7. The method according to claim 5, wherein the operating parameters are selected from the group comprising efficiency of wireless power transfer, voltage gain, input current, power lost at the receiver, resonator voltage, and any combination of the same.

8. The method according to claim 5, wherein the score is the RMS sum of scores for each operating parameter.

9. The method according to claim 6, wherein the scores of the operating parameters are weighted.

10. The method according to claim 1, wherein the selecting comprises identifying the set of circuits by highest score.

11. The method according to claim 1, wherein the set of circuits includes a plurality of circuits.

12. The method according to claim 1, wherein the selected set of circuits includes at least one circuit having diverse characteristics from the other circuits.

13. The method according to claim 1, further comprising adding to the set of selected circuits by mating components of different circuits.

14. The method according to claim 1, further comprising repeating the evaluating, selecting, and generating until an optimized circuit having a desired characteristic is discovered.

15. A computer program product, comprising:

instructions to generate an initial population of circuits;

instructions to evaluate the initial population of circuits;

instructions to select a circuit or circuits based on the evaluation; and

instructions to generate a new population based on the selected circuit or circuits.

16. The computer program product according to claim 15, wherein the instructions to generate a new population comprises generating a plurality of circuits based on combinations of parts of the circuits in the new population, initial population, or both.

17. The computer program product according to claim 15, wherein the instructions to select comprises assigning a score based on a plurality of parameters, the scoring optionally including weighting the parameters.

18. The computer program product according to claim 17, wherein the parameters are selected from the group comprising efficiency of wireless power transfer, voltage gain, input current, power lost at the receiver, resonator voltage, and any combination of the same.
