Abstract

A context-based computing framework is disclosed. Example methods disclosed herein to provide context-based computing include determining a location associated with a query from a device, the query requesting context information. Such disclosed example methods also include obtaining the context information from a context profile associated with the location, the context information identifying a computing resource associated with the location. Such disclosed example methods further include sending the context information in response to the query, the context information to facilitate interaction between the device and the computing resource associated with the location.

Claims

1. A method to provide context-based computing, the method comprising:

determining a location associated with a query from a device, the query requesting context information;

obtaining the context information from a context profile associated with the location, the context information identifying a computing resource associated with the location; and

sending the context information in response to the query, the context information to facilitate interaction between the device and the computing resource associated with the location.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the context information identifies a set of computing resources available at the location, and the context information specifies an associated set of resource interaction characteristics for interacting with the set of computing resources.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein determining the location comprises determining the location from an originating address of the query, the originating address associated with a routing gateway.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein determining the location comprises determining the location from global positioning system data included in the query.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein determining the location comprises determining the location from at least one of information identifying the device and information referencing an address associated with the device.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the context profile comprises a first context profile for the location, and the method further comprises:

obtaining a plurality of context profiles for the location; and

selecting the first context profile from the plurality of context profiles.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the first context profile is to be active at a first time, and selecting the first context profile from the plurality of context profiles comprises selecting the first context profile when a time of day corresponds to the first time.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the query includes device descriptive information, application descriptive information and identity information, and selecting the first context profile from the plurality of context profiles comprises selecting the first context profile based on the device descriptive information, the application descriptive information, the identity information, or a combination thereof.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the query includes identity information, and the method further comprises:

processing the identity information to determine whether the query is authorized; and

sending the context information if the query is determined to be authorized, but not sending the context information if the query is determined to not be authorized.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the query includes application descriptive information for an application executing on the device, and the method further comprises:

processing the application descriptive information to determine whether the query is authorized; and

sending the context information if the query is determined to be authorized, but not sending the context information if the query is determined to not be authorized.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the application descriptive information comprises an application signature.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein obtaining the context information from the context profile comprises processing the context profile based on query information included in the query.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the query information includes device descriptive information, and wherein obtaining the context information from the context profile comprises:

processing the device descriptive information to determine a role associated with the device for interacting with the computing resource; and

determining the context information from the context profile based on the role.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a request to interact with the computing resource after sending the context information; and

establishing interaction between the device and the computing resource.

15. The method of claim 1, further comprising provisioning context profiles associated with different locations, a first context profile associated with a first location being different from a second context profile associated with the second location.

16. A computer readable storage device comprising machine readable instructions which, when executed, cause a machine to performing operations comprising:

determining a location associated with a query from a first device, the query requesting context information;

obtaining the context information from a context profile associated with the location, the context information identifying a computing resource associated with the location; and

sending the context information in response to the query, the context information to facilitate interaction between the first device and the computing resource associated with the location.

The computer readable storage device of claim 16, wherein the context information identifies a set of computing resources available at the location, and the context information specifies an associated set of resource interaction characteristics for interacting with the set of computing resources

18. The computer readable storage device of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise determining the location from an originating address of the query, the originating address associated with a routing gateway.

19. The computer readable storage device of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise determining the location from global positioning system data included in the query.

20. The computer readable storage device of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise determining the location from at least one of information identifying the first device and information referencing an address associated with the first device.

21. The computer readable storage device of claim 16, wherein the context profile comprises a first context profile for the location, and the operations further comprise:

obtaining a plurality of context profiles for the location; and

selecting the first context profile from the plurality of context profiles.

22. The computer readable storage device of claim 21, wherein the first context profile is to be active at a first time, and the operations further comprise selecting the first context profile when a time of day corresponds to the first time.

23. The computer readable storage device of claim 21, wherein the query includes device descriptive information, application descriptive information and identity information, and the operations further comprise selecting the first context profile based on the device descriptive information, the application descriptive information, the identity information, or a combination thereof.

24. The computer readable storage device of claim 16, wherein the query includes identity information, and the operations further comprise:

processing the identity information to determine whether the query is authorized; and

sending the context information if the query is determined to be authorized, but not sending the context information if the query is determined to not be authorized.

25. The computer readable storage device of claim 16, wherein the query includes application descriptive information for an application executing on the first device, and the operations further comprise:

processing the application descriptive information to determine whether the query is authorized; and

sending the context information if the query is determined to be authorized, but not sending the context information if the query is determined to not be authorized.

26. The computer readable storage device of claim 25, wherein the application descriptive information comprises an application signature.

27. The computer readable storage device of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise processing the context profile based on query information included in the query.

28. The computer readable storage device of claim 27, wherein the query information includes device descriptive information, and wherein the operations further comprise:

processing the device descriptive information to determine a role associated with the first device for interacting with the computing resource; and

determining the context information from the context profile based on the role.

29. The computer readable storage device of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving a request to interact with the computing resource after the context information is sent; and

establishing interaction between the first device and the computing resource.

30. The computer readable storage device of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise provisioning context profiles associated with different locations, a first context profile associated with a first location being different from a second context profile associated with the second location.

31. An apparatus comprising:

a memory including machine readable instructions; and

a processor to execute the machine readable instructions to perform operations comprising;

determining a location associated with a query from a device, the query requesting context information;

obtaining the context information from a context profile associated with the location, the context information identifying a computing resource associated with the location; and

sending the context information in response to the query, the context information to facilitate interaction between the device and the computing resource associated with the location.

32. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the context information is to identify a set of computing resources available at the location, and the context information is to specify an associated set of resource interaction characteristics for interacting with the set of computing resources.

33. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the operations further comprise determining the location from an originating address of the query, the originating address associated with a routing gateway.

34. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the operations further comprise determining the location from global positioning system data included in the query.

35. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the operations further comprise determining the location from at least one of information identifying the device and information referencing an address associated with the device.

36. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the context profile comprises a first context profile provisioned for the location, and the operations further comprise:

obtaining from memory a plurality of context profiles for the location; and

selecting the first context profile from the plurality of context profiles.

37. The apparatus of claim 36, wherein the first context profile is to be active at a first time, and the operations further comprise selecting the first context profile from the plurality of context profiles when a time of day corresponds to the first time.

38. The apparatus of claim 36, wherein the query includes device descriptive information, application descriptive information and identity information, and the operations further comprise selecting the first context profile based on the device descriptive information, the application descriptive information, the identity information, or a combination thereof.

39. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the query includes identity information, and the operations further comprise:

determining whether the query is authorized based on the identity information; and

sending the context information if the query is determined to be authorized, but not sending the context information if the query is determined to not be authorized.

40. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the query includes application descriptive information for an application executing on the device, and the operations further comprise:

determining whether the query is authorized based on the application descriptive information; and

sending the context information if the query is determined to be authorized, but not sending the context information if the query is determined to not be authorized.

41. The apparatus of claim 40, wherein the application descriptive information comprises an application signature.

42. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the operations further comprise processing the context profile based on query information included in the query.

43. The apparatus of claim 42, wherein the query information includes device descriptive information, and wherein the operations further comprise:

processing the device descriptive information to determine a role associated with the device for interacting with the computing resource; and

determining the context information from the context profile based on the role.

44. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving a request to interact with the resource after the context information is sent; and

establishing interaction between the device and the computing resource.

45. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the operations further comprise:

provisioning context profiles associated with different locations, a first context profile associated with a first location being different from a second context profile associated with the second location; and

storing the context profiles.
