Abstract

Disclosed herein are techniques and systems for evaluating exercise performance of a user of a fitness system by utilizing one or more intelligent sensors, including at least one camera-based sensor configured to detect image data of the user. The fitness system may include a stationary exercise device, a memory to store personal information about a user, and a processor to generate a set of exercise rules based, at least in part, on the personal information about the user. The fitness system may also include one or more sensors to monitor a physical state of the user, and a fuzzy system to generate an evaluation for the user based, at least in part, on i) the set of rules and ii) output from the one or more sensors. The fitness system may thereby provide real-time, constructive feedback regarding the user'"'"'s exercise performance based on the sensed data.

Claims

1. A fitness system comprising:

a memory to store personal information about a user;

a processor to generate a set of exercise rules based, at least in part, on the personal information about the user;

one or more sensors to monitor a physical state of the user; and

a fuzzy system to generate an evaluation for the user based, at least in part, on i) the set of rules and ii) output from the one or more sensors.

2. The fitness system of claim 1, wherein the physical state of the user includes one or more of body weight, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen level, hydration level, body temperature, blood glucose level, or respiratory rate.

3. The fitness system of claim 1, wherein the physical state of the user includes one or more of a running stance of the user, muscle images of the user, or pressure points of the feet of the user.

4. The fitness system of claim 1, wherein the personal information about the user includes one or more of name, gender, age, race, height, weight, health conditions, or fitness goals.

5. The fitness system of claim 1, wherein the evaluation includes one or more of i) an evaluation of exercise performance by the user or ii) an instruction for the user to take corrective action.

6. The fitness system of claim 5, further comprising:

a stationary exercise device;

a video display mounted at a front end of the stationary exercise device, wherein the processor is configured to present, on the video display;

an image of a reference user having an ideal exercise form, and

an avatar of the user that indicates the exercise performance of the user based on the physical state of the user.

7. The fitness system of claim 1, further comprising:

a stationary exercise device, wherein the stationary exercise device comprises a treadmill, and wherein the evaluation includes one or more of instructions to correct running stance, to correct running stride, or to correct running pace.

8. The fitness system of claim 1, wherein the set of exercise rules are based, at least in part, on i) the personal information about the user and ii) the physical state of the user.

9. The fitness system of claim 1, wherein the evaluation is at least partly output on a video display in the form of a text-based message of the evaluation.

10. The fitness system of claim 1, further comprising a camera-based sensor configured to identify the user based on facial recognition.

11. The fitness system of claim 1, wherein the one or more sensors are configured to wirelessly communicate with the processor and/or the fuzzy system.

12. The fitness system of claim 1, wherein the one or more sensors include an electronic textile (e-textile) sensor to detect pressure forces on at least one foot of the user.

13. A method evaluating an exercise performance condition of a user on a fitness system, the method comprising:

generating a set of exercise rules based, at least in part, on personal information about a user;

monitoring a physical state of the user to produce one or more measurements representative of the physical state of the user;

mapping the one or more measurements to a set of fuzzy variables by a membership function; and

generating an evaluation for the user based, at least in part, on i) the set of fuzzy variables and ii) the set of exercise rules.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the physical state of the user includes one or more of body weight, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen level, hydration level, body temperature, blood glucose level, or respiratory rate.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the physical state of the user includes one or more of a running stance of the user, muscle images of the user, or pressure points of the feet of the user.

16. The method of claim 13, further comprising identifying, by a camera-based sensor, the user based at least in part on facial recognition.

17. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

identifying the user; and

downloading from a remote network server the personal information about the user.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the personal information about the user includes one or more of name, gender, age, race, height, weight, health conditions, or fitness goals.

19. The method of claim 13, wherein the evaluation includes one or more of i) an evaluation of exercise performance by the user or ii) an instruction for the user to take corrective action.

20. The method of claim 19, further comprising causing display of:

an image of a reference user having an ideal exercise form, and

an avatar of the user that indicates the exercise performance of the user based on the physical state of the user.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the causing the display of the avatar of the user comprises overlaying the avatar of the user on top of the image of the reference user.

22. The method of claim 13, wherein the stationary exercise device comprises a treadmill, and wherein the evaluation includes one or more of instructions to correct running stance, to correct running stride, or to correct running pace.

23. The method of claim 13, further comprising providing the evaluation on a video display in the form of a text-based message of the evaluation.

24. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

detecting, by an electronic textile (e-textile) sensor, pressure forces on at least one foot of the user, wherein generating the evaluation for the user is further based, at least in part, on the pressure forces.

25. The method of claim 13, further comprising displaying a text-based message of the evaluation for the user.

26. A fitness system comprising:

at least one camera-based sensor, the camera-based sensor being configured to detect image data of a user of the fitness system;

one or more sensors, the one or more sensors being configured to detect information about the user including one or more of body weight, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen level, hydration level, body temperature, blood glucose level, or respiratory rate;

a fuzzy system to;

determine an exercise performance condition of the user based, at least in part, on the detected image data and the detected information about the user, and

generate an evaluation of the exercise performance condition or an instruction to take corrective action.

27. The fitness system of claim 26, further comprising a memory to store personal information about the user input.

28. The fitness system of claim 27, further comprising a user input device to update the personal information and/or to input physical parameters of the user.

29. The fitness system of claim 28, wherein the physical parameters of the user includes caloric intake, and wherein the fuzzy system is configured to adjust a duration of an exercise activity based, at least in part, on caloric intake of the user.

30. The fitness system of claim 26, further comprising a receiver to receive from a remote network-based server personal information about the user based, at least in part, on the detected image data of the user.

31. The fitness system of claim 26, further comprising:

a stationary exercise device, wherein the stationary exercise device comprises a treadmill, and the exercise performance condition comprises one or more of a gait form of the user, a stride length of the user, a gait pace of the user, or muscle tension of the user.

32. The fitness system of claim 26, further comprising:

a stationary exercise device, wherein the stationary exercise device comprises a treadmill, and wherein the fuzzy system is configured to adjust an inclination of the treadmill based, at least in part, on the information about the user.

33. The fitness system of claim 26, further comprising:

a stationary exercise device, wherein the fuzzy system is configured to;

stop motion of the stationary exercise device for a time period;

during the time period, determine recovery rate of the user based, at least in part, on the one or more of body weight, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen level, hydration level, body temperature, blood glucose level, or respiratory rate;

restart the motion of the stationary exercise device; and

adjust operation of the stationary exercise device based, at least in part, on the determined recovery rate.

34. The fitness system of claim 26, wherein each of the one or more of body weight, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen level, hydration level, body temperature, blood glucose level, or respiratory rate comprises a fuzzy variable.
