Abstract

Aspects of the present invention relate to methods and systems for imaging, recognizing, and tracking of a user'"'"'s eye that is wearing a HWC. Aspects further relate to the processing of images reflected from the user'"'"'s eye and controlling displayed content in accordance therewith.

Claims

1. An eye-imaging system for a head-worn display, comprising:

a. A display adapted to produce image light, the display positioned to project the image light through a partially reflective and partially transmissive surface that is in-line with transfer optics adapted to present the image light to an eye of a user; and

b. A camera positioned to capture eye-image light that originates as a reflection off of the eye, wherein the camera is further positioned to capture the eye-image light after it reflects off of the partially reflective and partially transmissive surface and at least one additional surface such that eye-image light path is folded to accommodate a placement of the camera.

2. The eye-imaging system of claim 1, wherein the camera captures the eye-image light after it traveled an optical path that is the same as the optical path for the image light in the transfer optics.

3. The eye-imaging system of claim 2, wherein the eye-image light follows an optical path that does not involve the display.

4. The eye-imaging system of claim 2, wherein the at least one additional surface includes a dark light trap.

5. The eye-imaging system of claim 4, wherein the dark light trap is positioned to capture off-pixel light.

6. The eye-imaging system of claim 1, wherein the display is a front lit reflective display.

7. The eye-imaging system of claim 1, wherein the display is an emissive display.

8. The eye-imaging system of claim 1, wherein the head-worn display is a see-through display.
