Interface Unit In A Multiple Viewing Elements Endoscope System
First Claim
1. An endoscopy video processing and interfacing system configured to receive and transmit video images, wherein the endoscopy video processing and interfacing system comprises:
- a first image capture element and a second image capture element, wherein said first and second image capture elements are configured to generate a first image stream and a second image stream respectively;
a processing system adapted to send control instructions to said first image capture element and second image capture element, to receive said first image stream and second image stream, to synchronize said first image stream and second image stream, and to transmit said synchronized first and second image streams to a display;
an actuator for receiving a user command to capture a plurality of image frames from the synchronized first and second image streams, wherein said processing system, in response to an input into said actuator, causes each of the plurality of image frames to be shown on said display for a predetermined time period and wherein said predetermined time period is greater than 0.05 seconds; and
a frame grabber adapted to capture and store a copy of each of said plurality of image frames as it is shown for said predetermined time period.

Abstract
An interface unit is configured to functionally associate with an endoscope system which includes at least two simultaneously operating imaging channels associated with at least two displays, respectively. In a first configuration, the interface unit includes an image processor functionally associated with the at least two imaging channels which is configured to separately synchronize images and image data received simultaneously from the at least two imaging channels and send those discrete image streams to different displays. In a second configuration, the interface unit includes an image processor functionally associated with the at least two imaging channels which is configured to receive image streams, synchronize the image streams, and create a single image stream to send to a display.

16. A method for capturing images in an endoscope system, said endoscope system comprising a plurality of simultaneously operating imaging elements and a processing system capable of receiving and individually capturing images transmitted from each one of said plurality of imaging elements, said method comprising the steps of:
-
triggering an image capture event; displaying a first image from a first imaging element of said plurality of imaging elements on a display; sending a first trigger pulse from said processing system to an image capture component to cause said image capture component to save a digital copy of said first image on a non-volatile medium; displaying a second image from a second imaging element of said plurality of imaging elements on said display; and sending a second trigger pulse from said processing system to an image capture component to cause said image capture component to save a digital copy of said second image on a non-volatile medium, wherein, said first and second images are captured and saved sequentially. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18, 19, 20)
