Abstract

A video clip may be automatically generated from a gameplay recording based on an interest metric. The interest metric may be determined from a variety of sources, such as developer provided signals, platform-based signals, and reception signal. A machine learning technique may be applied to each of the signals individually and/or in aggregate (e.g., the interest metric) to ascertain a weighting scheme, for example, for each individual signal or the interest metric to improve the selection of portions of video from a gameplay recording.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

obtaining a recording of a video game while the game is played by a first user;

receiving an indication of an interest metric that comprises a frame indication, the frame indication identifying a temporal location within the recording;

selecting a plurality of portions of the recording based on the interest metric;

generating a first video clip based upon the plurality of portions of the recording; and

providing the first video clip.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the interest metric comprises at least one signal selected from the group consisting of:

a developer-provided signal, a reception signal, and a game signal.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the interest metric comprises a developer-provided signal that indicates a portion of the video game indicated as likely to be of interest by a developer of the video game.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a request to assemble a second video clip;

selecting a second plurality of portions of the recording based on the interest metric and the plurality of portions selected for the first video clip;

combining the second plurality of portions of the recording into a second video clip; and

providing the second video clip.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising ranking the frame indication relative to at least one other frame indication in the interest metric.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the selection of the plurality of portions of the recording is further based on the ranking.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising recording a touch input.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the video clip includes a representation of the touch input corresponding to the selected plurality of portions.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising selecting an audio track for the video clip, wherein the video clip further comprises the audio clip.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining a video effect for the selected plurality of portions.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the video clip further comprises the video effect.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of portions comprises a plurality of frames.

13. A system, comprising:

a database configured to store a recording of a video game;

a processor connected to the database and configured to;

obtain the recording of a video game while the game is played by a first user;

receive an indication of an interest metric that comprises a frame indication, wherein the frame indication identifies a temporal location within the recording;

select a plurality of portions of the recording based on the interest metric;

generate a first video clip based upon the plurality of portions of the recording; and

provide the first video clip.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the interest metric comprises at least one signal selected from the group consisting of:

a developer-provided signal, a reception signal, and a game signal.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein the interest metric comprises a developer-provided signal that indicates a portion of the video game indicated as likely to be of interest by a developer of the video game.

16. The system of claim 13, further comprising:

receiving a request to assemble a second video clip;

selecting a second plurality of portions of the recording based on the interest metric and the plurality of portions selected for the first video clip;

combining the second plurality of portions of the recording into a second video clip; and

providing the second video clip.

17. The system of claim 13, further comprising ranking the frame indication relative to at least one other frame indication in the interest metric.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the selection of the plurality of portions of the recording is further based on the ranking.

19. The system of claim 13, further comprising recording a touch input.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the video clip includes a representation of the touch input corresponding to the selected plurality of portions.

21. The system of claim 13, further comprising selecting an audio track for the video clip, wherein the video clip further comprises the audio clip.

22. The system of claim 13, further comprising determining a video effect for the selected plurality of portions.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the video clip further comprises the video effect.

24. The system of claim 13, wherein the plurality of portions comprises a plurality of frames.
