CONTROL OF ADAPTIVE OPTICS
First Claim
1. A control system for a wearable device, comprising:
- a display system including a processor in electrical communication withan image projector operative to project an image of data or data for a model pattern,a light source optically coupled with the image projector,an image capture device operative to generate output data from a retinal reflection image incident on the image capture device,an ambient light sensor operative to determine an ambient light state indicative of pupil dilation or pupil constriction;
adaptive optics having a variable refractive power, the adaptive optics operative to optically couple an ambient image with a retina of an eye, the adaptive optics electrically coupled with a plurality of signals operative to reversibly change the variable refractive power; and
delivery optics operative to optically couple the adaptive optics and the retina with the image projector and the image capture device,wherein the processor is operative to compare the output data with the data for the model pattern to determine if the output data indicates image displacement in the retinal reflection image, and operative to generate the plurality of signals to change the variable refractive power of the adaptive optics when image displacement is indicated.

Abstract
A portable display system operative to present images to a user wearing the display and to correct vision using adaptive optics may include a lens system with a variable index of refraction and an image projector and image capture device. The image projector may project a pattern onto a retina of the user'"'"'s eye(s) and the image capture device may capture a retinal reflection image of the pattern. A processor may compare the retinal reflection image with a model to determine deviation from the model. One or more different wavelengths of light may be used for the projected pattern, such as one or more of Infrared (Ir), Red, Green, Blue or White wavelengths generated by discrete and/or integrated light sources (e.g., W, R, B, G, Ir LED'"'"'s and/or W, R, B, G, Ir LASERS) that may also comprise a light source for the image projector.
