1. A computer-implemented method for adjusting a web application user interface (UI), the method comprising:

  • rendering the web application UI based on a document object model (DOM) and one or more cascading style sheet (CSS) rules;

    detecting at least one state change of the web application using a processor of a computing device from a first state to a second state;

    adjusting one or more elements of the web application UI in dependence upon the at least one state change, by changing a class of a UI element of the one or more elements in the DOM from a first class associated with the first state to a second class associated with a second state, wherein the one or more CSS rules include at least a first descendant selector that is associated with the second class and changing the class of the one or more elements applies one or more new properties to one or more sublevel elements of the UI element using the first descendant selector; and

    rendering the web application UI with the adjusted one or more elements.
