Abstract

A digital media platform that enables content to be mapped to the context of location. The platform can allow users to create, view and share packages of multimedia content (drops) that are posted to points on a digital map. It enables the aggregation and re-publishing of open source content to fixed points on the map, for easier discovery and sharing. The platform can also provide a relevance engine that takes account of actions related to the creation and consumption of digital multimedia packages on a map, and can provide an ad serving system that takes advantage of behavioral and location-specific data to rank associations between consumers, content and places on the map.

Claims

1. A platform comprising one or more processors configured to:

obtain location information;

generate a package of multimedia content comprising text, image, video and audio; and

attach the generated package to a digital map at the obtained location.

2. The platform of claim 1, wherein the audio content comprises personally recorded audio of a user of the platform.

3. The platform of claim 1 comprising one or more processors configured to:

share the generated package with external social media platforms.

4. The platform of claim 1, wherein the multimedia content comprises a reference to content stored by an external streaming service.

5. The platform of claim 1, comprising one or more processors configured to, in response to a request from a user to consume content in the package:

identify an external streaming service associated with the user,

generate a reference to the content stored by the identified external streaming service, and

provide the reference in the package presented to the user.

6. The platform of claim 1, comprising one or more processors configured to:

display the generated package on the digital map at the obtained location.

7. The platform of claim 1, comprising one or more processors configured to:

display the generated package in augmented reality at the obtained location.

8. The platform of claim 1, comprising one or more processors configured to:

filter content attached to the digital map that is displayed to a user, the filtered content comprising content provided by the user and content provided by others that the user follows.

9. The platform of claim 1, comprising one or more processors configured to:

display a cluster of packages of multimedia content attached to the digital map in the same location using an icon indicating the number of the packages in the cluster.

10. The platform of claim 1, comprising one or more processors configured to:

restrict visibility of the package on the digital map until a user enters a geographical perimeter.

11. The platform of claim 1, comprising one or more processors configured to:

restrict visibility of content within the package, but not the package itself, on the digital map until a user enters a geographical perimeter.

12. The platform of claim 1, comprising one or more processors configured to:

restrict visibility of the package on the digital map until a time restriction is lifted.

13. The platform of claim 1, comprising one or more processors configured to:

attach multiple packages of multimedia content to the digital map in a batch mode.

14. The platform of claim 1, comprising one or more processors configured to:

post the generated package on the digital map, and

require a user to perform an activity within the posted package to make additional packages of multimedia content visible on the map.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein the user behavior comprises number of the packages created.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein the user behavior comprises number of the packages opened.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the user behavior comprises actions taken within the packages.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the actions taken within the packages comprises sharing a package.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein the actions taken within the packages comprise unlocking other packages that were previously invisible to the user.

21. The method of claim 18, wherein the user behavior comprises comments made within the packages.

22. The method of claim 18, wherein the user behavior comprises purchases made via the packages.

15. A method comprising:

tracking, by a platform implemented by one or more processors, user behavior with respect to packages of multimedia content attached to a digital map; and

filtering, by the platform, the packages to be displayed to a user based on the user behavior.
