Abstract

A computer determines a business glossary, wherein the business glossary includes one or more business terms that correspond to one or more assets. The computer receives a request to create an ETL job associated with a business term. The computer creates an ETL job for the business term, wherein the ETL job includes a business glossary stage.

Claims

1. A method for creating an ETL job utilizing a business glossary stage, comprising the steps of:

a computing device determining a business glossary, wherein the business glossary includes one or more business terms that correspond to one or more assets;

the computing device receiving a request to create an ETL job associated with a business term; and

the computing device creating an ETL job for the business term, wherein the ETL job includes a business glossary stage.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

the computing device receiving a request to run the ETL job; and

the computing device performing the business glossary stage, wherein performing the business glossary stage comprises referencing the business glossary in order to determine one or more assets associated with the business term.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

the computing device receiving a request to run the ETL job;

the computing device joining at least a portion of information from a first asset and a second asset; and

the computing device performing the business glossary stage, wherein performing the business glossary stage comprises determining that a third asset is associated with the business term, and storing the joined information in the third asset.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising the computing device updating the business glossary so that the business term is associated with the first asset, the second asset and the third asset.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

the computing device receiving a first request to run the ETL job; and

the computing device performing the business glossary stage, wherein performing the business glossary stage further comprises determining that a first asset and a second asset are associated with the business term, and joining at least a portion of information from the first asset and the second asset.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising:

the computing device updating the business glossary, wherein updating the business glossary comprises updating the business term so that it is associated with the first asset, the second asset and a third asset;

the computing device receiving a second request to run the ETL job; and

the computing device performing the business glossary stage, wherein the business glossary stage further comprises determining that the first asset, the second asset, and the third asset are associated with the business term, and joining at least a portion of information from the first asset, the second asset, and the third asset.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein updating the business glossary further comprises changing the business term based on the associated first asset, the second asset, and the third asset.

8. A computer program product for creating an ETL job utilizing a business glossary stage, the computer program product comprising:

one or more computer-readable storage devices and program instructions stored on at least one of the one or more tangible storage devices, the program instructions comprising;

program instructions to determine a business glossary, wherein the business glossary includes one or more business terms that correspond to one or more assets;

program instructions to receive a request to create an ETL job associated with a business term; and

program instructions to create an ETL job for the business term, wherein the ETL job includes a business glossary stage.

9. The computer program product of claim 8, further comprising:

program instructions to receive a request to run the ETL job; and

program instructions to perform the business glossary stage, wherein the program instructions to perform the business glossary stage comprises program instructions to reference the business glossary in order to determine one or more assets associated with the business term.

10. The computer program product of claim 8, further comprising:

program instructions to receive a request to run the ETL job;

program instructions to join at least a portion of information from a first asset and a second asset; and

program instructions to perform the business glossary stage, wherein the program instructions to perform the business glossary stage comprises program instructions to determine that a third asset is associated with the business term, and program instructions to store the joined information in the third asset.

11. The computer program product of claim 10, further comprising program instructions to update the business glossary so that the business term is associated with the first asset, the second asset, and the third asset.

12. The computer program product of claim 8, further comprising:

program instructions to receive a first request to run the ETL job; and

program instructions to perform the business glossary stage, wherein the program instructions to perform the business glossary stage further comprises program instructions to determine that a first asset and a second asset are associated with the business term, and program instructions to join at least a portion of information from the first asset and the second asset.

13. The computer program product of claim 12, further comprising:

program instructions to update the business glossary, wherein the program instructions to update the business glossary comprises program instructions to update the business term so that it is associated with the first asset, the second asset and a third asset;

program instructions to receive a second request to run the ETL job; and

program instructions to perform the business glossary stage, wherein the program instructions to perform the business glossary stage further comprises program instructions to determine that the first asset, the second asset, and the third asset are associated with the business term, and program instructions to join at least a portion of information from the first asset, the second asset, and the third asset.

14. The computer program product of claim 13, wherein the program instructions to update the business glossary further comprises program instructions to change the business term based on the associated first asset, the second asset, and the third asset.

15. A computer system for creating an ETL job utilizing a business glossary stage, the computer system comprising:

one or more processors, one or more computer-readable memories, one or more computer-readable tangible storage devices, and program instructions stored on at least one of the one or more storage devices for execution by at least one of the one or more processors via at least one of the one or more memories, the program instructions comprising;

program instructions to determine a business glossary, wherein the business glossary includes one or more business terms that correspond to one or more assets; and

program instructions to receive a request to create an ETL job associated with a business term; and

program instructions to create an ETL job for the business term, wherein the ETL job includes a business glossary stage.

16. The computer system of claim 15, further comprising:

program instructions to receive a request to run the ETL job; and

program instructions to perform the business glossary stage, wherein the program instructions to perform the business glossary stage comprises program instructions to reference the business glossary in order to determine one or more assets associated with the business term.

17. The computer system of claim 15, further comprising:

program instructions to receive a request to run the ETL job;

program instructions to join at least a portion of information from a first asset and a second asset; and

program instructions to perform the business glossary stage, wherein the program instructions to perform the business glossary stage comprises determining that a third asset is associated with the business term, and program instructions to store the joined information in the third asset.

18. The computer system of claim 17, further comprising program instructions to update the business glossary so that the business term is associated with the first asset, the second asset, and the third asset.

19. The computer system of claim 15, further comprising:

program instructions to receive a first request to run the ETL job; and

program instructions to perform the business glossary stage, wherein the program instructions to perform the business glossary further comprises program instructions to determine that a first asset and a second asset are associated with the business term, and program instructions to join at least a portion of information from the first asset and the second asset.

20. The computer system of claim 19, further comprising:

program instructions to update the business glossary, wherein the program instructions to update the business glossary comprises program instructions to update the business term so that it is associated with the first asset, the second asset, and a third asset;

program instructions to receive a second request to run the ETL job; and

program instructions to perform the business glossary stage, wherein the program instructions to perform the business glossary stage further comprises program instructions to determine that the first asset, the second asset, and the third asset are associated with the business term, and program instructions to join at least a portion of information from the first asset, the second asset, and the third asset.
